I’ve visited Bay House Restaurant multiple times—at least four or more—but unfortunately, my most recent visit on June 18th was by far the worst and has left me with no desire to return.
We had a reservation for 6:30 PM and arrived just a few minutes late at 6:33 after my graduation. Despite having a reservation, we waited nearly two hours before our food arrived. What made the wait even more frustrating was seeing other parties who larger then us and arrived after us being served well before us. It gave the impression that we weren’t a priority—possibly because we were a younger group—which made the experience feel unfair and, frankly, borderline discriminatory.
When the food finally came, it was cold and the portions were small, I could count the number of fries I received. We only ate it because we were hungry after the long wait, not because it was enjoyable. To make matters worse, we had to repeatedly approach the wait staff ourselves just to get basic service, as it seemed we were being avoided. The bill, however, was fastest thing to come. 5 minutes top, and we were still charged full price, despite everything that had gone wrong.
Our server did make a few jokes and had moments of humor, but overall their attitude felt passive-aggressive. They eventually told us the delays and poor service were due to being short-staffed and apologized for it—but that doesn’t explain why others received prompt and attentive service while we were left waiting.
The only positive takeaway, according to one of my friends, was that the bar seemed to be doing a good job. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make up for the overall negative experience.
This visit left a bad impression, and I won’t be returning to Bay House. Usually Bay House it one of the first restaurants I recommend when individuals ask. Not anymore, I’ll probably highly discourage it. I regret not taking pictures of everything because it...
Read moreWe have been coming to Antigua for more than 30 years and hVe been here many times, we went last night and was so disappointed. We got there at about 7.50 we were shiwn to our table and was asked if we wanted drinks, which we ordered. It took 10 minutes to get our drinks. Then at 8.20 they took our foid order, my Husband ordered the Mai Mai fillette and I ordered the goats cheese and honey salad, which was an appetiser but I wasn't very hungry. At 8.30 the waitress came Iver and said they didn't have any doi ach, would greens be OK, I said yes that was fine. At 8.40 my husbands dinner turns up, at 8.45 asked where mine was and was told it was being remade as it was too small. 8.55 a green salad turned up by this time my husband dinner was cold and mine was wrong as there was no goats cheese or honey on the salad, so I sent it back Nd asked them to rake my husbands back as his was cold, bearing in mind he had been given his about 29 minutes prior to my wrong salad being given. 10 minutes later my salad turns up with two tiny pieces if goats cheese and a drizzle of honey . They also brought back my husbands dinner which had been put under the warming light so was dry. I had a couple if mouthfuls of mine and My husband pushed his aside. It was a very poor experience. We paid the bill less the service charge that was added and left ...
Read moreWent here for dinner on a tuesday night. We had a party of 4. The place was moderatly busy, but still had plenty of seating available. We didnt have a reservation, so we were told to sit and wait while they put a table together for us. No big deal, right? Well we wait for almost 35 minutes to be seated, we waited another 10 minutes before anyone came for a drink order. We then waited another 30+ minutes to recieve our drinks, then promptly ordered our meal choices. Waited another 40 minutes, no one came to refill our drinks... or even ask for that matter. So we decided that was enough. We get up to leave, and the waitress stopped us and insisted our food was ready. We sit back down and our appetisers come out less than warm. And our main courses were not something to brag about. Kinda dry, and lacking flavor. So to sum this up. Do not go here, unless you are staying at the hotel attached. We found waaaaay better food in the towns and neighborhoods, at little 10 seat establishments. So for those who are new to antigua, please do not be shy, do not be scared to travel into the towns, neighborhoods to meet new people and eat some really amazing food outside if the hotels...
