The Kon Tiki Bar – A Caribbean Oasis Afloat
Nestled just 100 metres offshore in the crystal-clear waters of Dickinson Bay, The Kon Tiki Bar offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience. This floating paradise can only be reached by boat or with a short swim from the beach, adding a sense of adventure to your visit right from the start.
Operated by two British expats – one a die-hard Burnley supporter and the other a devoted Liverpool fan – the Kon Tiki is as full of character as it is of Caribbean charm. Their friendly rivalry adds a light-hearted touch to the bar’s lively personality, often sparking good-natured football banter with guests.
Once aboard, you’re greeted by the infectious rhythms of West Indian music drifting over the waves, creating an unbeatable island vibe. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, with the sounds of calypso, reggae, and soca setting the perfect tone for an afternoon escape.
The bar itself serves a refreshing selection of cold beers, premium spirits, and an imaginative range of house cocktails – all with a cheeky pirate twist. Signature concoctions include:
Pirate Punch – a fruity and fiery Caribbean classic
Mutiny Margarita – with a tropical twist on the tequila favourite
Mermaid Mule – a cool and zesty ginger-lime refresher
Pegleg Painkiller – a rich blend of rum, pineapple, orange, and coconut Each cocktail is affordably priced at around $8 USD, making it easy to sample a few while watching the sun sparkle on the water.
Whether you're floating in on a paddleboard, arriving via dinghy, or swimming up with sandy toes, The Kon Tiki Bar delivers an unforgettable blend of sun, sea, and spirits – a must-visit hidden gem for anyone craving an authentic taste of...
Read moreI've been swimming out to this tiki bar everytime I've been to Antigua and have always thought of this as a highlight of the island. I've raved about this place to everyone and taken many friends over. This time I was visiting with someone who wasn't a good swimmer so I asked for the boat to take us over. Declined: twice in two days. First it was a private party. Thought nothing of it. Next time it was that they were closing. They weren't and didn't close until after sunset as per usual. I suppose the boat driver just assumed I was local, but I totally get why people say this a discriminatory business on the island. That treatment was wow. I suppose I could have swam out and been served a drink, but what a terrible experience. I know my husband is never going to want to go to the bar and I'm definitely not swimming out to have a...
Read moreThe Kon Tiki Bar and Grill is a floating Bar and Grill moored in the Dickenson Bay Area of Antigua in the Vicinity of Sandals and the Buccaneer Beach Hotel and many other establishments on that popular long stretch of excellent powdery white sandy beach and it's shoreline. Since it is completely surrounded by water a shore to Bar (and back) service is provided.
The Ideal of a floating Bar and Grill is quite novel at least for Antigua and it adds even more appeal to the area. For the lucky customers it is indeed a treat and for those observing the spectacle from the seashore it brings a smile to the countenance. I am in the latter category and I am yet to participate in the no doubt excitement and sample the delights.
The Kon Tiki Bar and Grill is .one to be experienced and it does have some...
