Oviedo brings out a cozy atmosphere and a home-like treatment from staff, they are super friendly and diligent. The non complimentary bread was accompanied by a pretty good "Causa Limeña". After that they brought some flatbread-like crackers with powdered bellpepper, absolutely delightful. Gratin scallops where beautifully plated, and cooked to perfection. They even had a nice broth under all that cheese crust, really tasty. Shrimp risotto was a bit overcooked but the flavor was exceptional, it had a great amount of shrimp bits all over the rice, the one flaw it had was with the shrimps used to "decorate", they had a crust that was too salty, to the point it made me cough, other than that it wws amazing.
Lemonade was disgraceful, especially considering it costs around 5 dollars, not even worth taking a picture of it.
Prices are way over the top considering you can eat better quality food for about the same or even less than in here. I would recommend the place for a nice date night or a business dinner. All in all it was all for 40...
Read moreI went here so you don't have to. This place lives off its reputation. Absolutely overpriced and mediocre food. Restaurant façade is dirty with filthy awnings. Inside decor is tired. Traditionally dressed waiters look presentable but are obviously bored with their jobs and definitely with you - unimpressive and unfriendly service. USS27 for one person at lunch for a glass of house Malbec, croquettes as an appetizer, and an extremely greasy and tough main course of pasta with seafood that I would've expected at a bad cafe . There is a stupidly high table cover charge, and the main course was billed at a higher price on the check than was stated on the menu. The restaurant appeared to have only geriatric regular neighborhood customers. There are many higher quality pasta and seafood restaurants with much warmer atmosphere and service to be found, at less extortionate prices, many other places in...
Read moreIt pains me to give Oviedo,a low rating. Oviedo was our favorite fine Spanish dining experience in Buenos Aires.
10 years has changed Oviedo for the worst. On entrance the place smells bad.
The calamari fried appetizer was soggy in grease Fish, their specialty, was a sad has been. Tough on the edges and greasy. This saddened and shocked me. Our several previous visits the fish was like you would enjoy at a fine dining Michelin star restaurant in Europe
The carper sauce was old. It used to pop. The waiter was unmoved, unconcerned when we mentioned our observations.
Unfortunately the desert wasn't any better.
I will say the white wine was great and served at perfect temperature. Kudos.
We were saddened Oviedo has fallen so far from being a cornerstone of high end restaurants in Buenos Aires.
Later w found the chef is now at ROUX, much smaller and...
