First I want to say that I only leave reviews this terrible when I feel it is my duty from stopping others from paying 800+ USD on an experience that is NOT worth it.
My group of 6 came in celebrating a wedding of 2 in the group. The majority of the group consisted of people of a diverse cultural background, including myself who is Asian and grew up eating sushi in Asia. I mention this because we have eaten a lot of sushi in our lives.
Here is why I believe you shouldn’t come to this establishment:
Their policy is to not let people in if late however our experience started almost 30 minutes late and we received no apology or acknowledgment of that. I would expect for $150+ USD a person, you would be offered a beverage of some sorts…
The actual food is not up to standard of a Michelin guide experience. I suggest going to a place that is cheaper because you are over paying for the quality of food that you are receiving. The dishes weren’t well thought out or cohesive and got worse as the meal progressed.
The service is terrible, horrible and everything in between. This is probably the part that upsets me the most.
Our group has travelled all over the world to come to BA to meet, so I admit we were very high energy and even a little loud. My husband at one point suggests that we not order another bottle to which the host responds: let the ladies have fun. The men of the group proceed to order the bottle that is $120 USD on top off the first bottle that was similar priced so we can “have fun”. 20 mins later the host comes back and tells us omakase is a calm and quiet experience and we need to be quiet. Maybe don’t upsell alcohol so you can make a 20x profit margin on your alcohol sales then tell guests to be quiet. That is by far the most ludicrous gaslighting I have ever seen someone perform.
Halfway through the experience, the chef stopped talking to us about what we were eating and just started giving us the fish. She was clearly upset but didn’t say anything. She chose instead to give us attitude and look at us rudely the rest of the meal.
To top it off, at the end of the meal we are told we HAVE to provide a tip in cash and not on card. The host gives us a dirty look when we say we have no cash and then checks us out. The door was locked so the host came to the front to let us out and then proceeded to make some comment about us not leaving a tip. This is so unbefitting of any experience
Overall, the food is not good or fitting for the price that is paid and the people in this restaurant clearly have not worked in hospitality long enough to have the maturity to deal with customers coming in for a full experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed the...
Read moreI have never written a 1-star review before, but after much consideration, I feel compelled to share my experience at this omakase restaurant. I’ve been fortunate to enjoy several omakase experiences, all of which have been incredible—until this one. Unfortunately, it fell far below the standard I expected.
Punctuality Mismatch: We were told not to arrive late, with a clear warning that arriving 15 minutes past our reservation would result in losing our spot. We arrived on time, only to be left waiting outside for over 15 minutes with no explanation or apology.
Unprofessional Hosting: Once seated, there was no acknowledgment of the delay. When the women in our group considered ordering sake, I suggested sticking with the pairing provided. The host interjected, saying, “C’mon, don’t be like that, let the girls have fun,” pushing us into ordering a bottle marked up nearly 10x its retail price.
Inconsistent Food Quality: The first third of the meal was decent (7.5/10), but the dishes deteriorated in quality as the evening progressed. None of the courses stood out as exceptional, and several were below the standard of a typical sushi restaurant.
Mixed Signals: After pressuring us to order a bottle of sake to “have more fun,” we were later reprimanded for being “too loud.”
Awkward Exit: As we were leaving, the host commented, “We don’t let people leave unless they leave a tip.” This was not only inappropriate but also added to an already disappointing evening.
Portion sizes were too small. Our group was hungry enough to eat an entire extra meal immediately after the experience.
For a Michelin-guide restaurant charging $150 per person for food and drinks, I expect: • Extraordinary food • Attentive, professional service
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone based on the poor taste of food, service, and overall experience.
P.S. out of the 14 dishes, 2 were very, very good (the trout and the edamame). The rest were average or below average in my experience.
PPS. The sake here is absolutely amazing and we very much enjoyed the...
Read moreThis was my second visit and I returned because I obviously enjoyed it the first time. However, on the second visit the experience was completely the opposite and I will NEVER return and I cannot recommend this place to anyone else either. The first dish had a tempura cracker that was so over fried and stale it was inedible and the second dish was some kind of squid salad and when it arrived the smell was a bit fishy. I have never smelt squid like this in my life and now I know why. Since I had a good experience the first time I trusted that the dishes were fresh as they should be and the restaurant handled it with proper care. My intuition told me something was off with the squid dish but I ate it as it was only 2 bites. After the next dishes I started to feel unwell and I felt like I could physically not continue to eat. After getting 1/4 of the way through the menu I could not continue the meal and refused all of the following dishes. My husband who was also with me also felt off from the meal and agreed that the squid was not handled well and was unsanitary and too spoiled to be served. I got sick in the restaurant bathroom which the restaurant was aware of I and spent the next 2 days of my vacation with food poisoning due to what I had eaten here. I could also see that the other patrons were not finishing their dishes and it was clear we all were not enjoying the experience as we should. Nobody pays for a set menu to not eat it due to the quality and freshness of the dishes. The restaurant offered a mere 10% off for this catastrophic experience which is a joke. Shame on them for not keeping proper sanitation and caring for their customers well being. I don’t recommend this place both due to the quality of the ingredients and the freshness as well as the way they handle their customers when they clearly give them food poisoning...
