Café Rumano — Restaurant in Mendoza

A real gem in what is otherwise mostly touristy places. I had the best empanadas I have ever tried. The shell was basically a pastry crust that was warm and flaky, and it was filled with delicious braised beef. It cam with an olive oil, red onion and herb salsa that was fresh and flavorful. Outstanding. We also had a sandwich with bread that was "sin TACC", i.e., gluten free. We thought they made a mistake and gave us regular bread, but they didn't. It was made with chick pea flour and it was probably the closest gluten-free bread to flour-based bread I have ever tried. The salad had fresh ingredients and was beautifully presented. To be honest, the food was very disappointing. I had the "lomito sandwich" and the lemonade with ginger and mint and both were bad. The lomito sandwich was dry and the meat was low quality. Also, the lemonade was straight up disgusting, I could not even taste the ginger or the mint. What is more disappointing is the fact that the food was expensive. I believe that the value has to match the quality of the food and unfortunately it did not at this restaurant. However, the service was really nice but I would not come back for the food. We were looking forward to eat at el Mercadito and our experience didn't go as well as we wanted.

The empanadas that we got as a starter were really tasty and hot. We also enjoyed the salsa criolla that provided a fresh touch.

Our mains, the fish and pork didn't taste as good.

The pork dish had an overwhelming amount of soy sauce that was spread through the whole dish making it really intense and not enjoyable.

The fish dish was subpart, the vegetable were huge and the seasoning wasn't on point. Making it a very bland choice.
