La Casona Coffee — Restaurant in Mendoza

We ended up here by chance, as we were keen to try a wine or two from the bodega but were told that without a reservation we would not be able to enter the bodega. We asked if they had a bar/restaurant on site and were pleasantly surprised when we were directed here. It's a beautiful tea room/coffee place where thy make specialty coffees, beautifully decorated cakes and you can also have a glass of their house wine or try a bottle of a variety of the wines from the bodega. We had a glass each with a lovely presented picada and stayed for coffee after this. The place is beautiful and you can understand why people take pictures of the rooms and also the dishes that come out of the kitchen or the wonderfully presented coffees/teas. Everything is like a little work of art and the detail is incredible. The service is superb. Brisa, Simon and Gonzalo all made sure we were happy, wanted for nothing, answered all of our questions, and Simon even modified a specialty coffee for me to suit my taste better. This place should only stick to a coffee shop ONLY, pastries are good, kinda oversize and lack of finesse but they taste ok. Macarons are far away from those seen at Parisian bakeries, are fill like and alfajor, I see it as they're own take of macarons rather than a fail. The full menu is really bad, takes forever to come, servers look like they are lost, constantly asking for water refills, bread came half way out our meal (after waiting for over 1 hour) meat temperature, ha!, the chef needs a thermostat, we order different temps throughout the table and none was good. Medium rare was medium well and so on. Pasta dish offered was not a available, we came to realize after 30 minutes of placing the order, instead was replaced with a kids pasta dish. La cafetería está casi escondida dentro del terreno de la bodega Los Toneles. No es difícil llegar.

El ambiente es precioso, demasiado bello y delicado. La calefacción es ideal y la decoración espectacular y armoniosa tal como se ve en las fotos. La atención también es impecable, todos fueron muy respetuosos y atentos. Probamos el café americano y el café de la casa (ese latte rosado con merengues). Riquísimos, la verdad, volvería por ellos. La limonada también era grande y bien ácida como me gusta. Hay terrones de azúcar en forma de corazones si prefieren endulzar más las bebidas. Es gracioso porque en la carta todo luce como si fuera miniatura pero en realidad las bebidas especiales tienen un tamaño normal, adecuado, y me encanta el diseño de las tazas y los cubiertos.

El único punto débil que me hizo bajar una estrella fue el postre. El sabor de la Fresie (la flor rosada) me resultó desagradable y de baja calidad (como si fuera leche con almidón y saborizante artificial), algo inesperado ya que la apariencia era muy linda. A mi acompañante le gustó, al menos.

El bagel no estaba mal. La estética estaba muy cuidada, con flores comestibles. En lo personal me gustó, aunque su precio es algo excesivo para la cantidad tan escasa de trucha y salmón que tenía (abundaba el queso y el pan). No lo volvería a pedir a menos que fuera en una promo. Lo bueno es que se puede compartir y lo sirven con aceite de oliva, sal y pimienta que uno puede agregarle cuanto desee.

También hay opciones sin tacc, casi todos los postres, bebidas y pueden cambiar los panes de las tostadas.

Los precios no son económicos, pero justo aprovechamos una promo en la que venía un vaso térmico de regalo y la verdad así se sintió que no fue tan caro todo el paquete completo.

Volveré cuando mi presupuesto lo permita. Me encantaría volver a probar otras bebidas y darle una nueva oportunidad al postre, a ver si le subo a 5 estrellas. En general sí recomiendo este lugar si les gustan los sitios bonitos, femeninos y probar cosas...
