Casa Malbec.Wine — Restaurant in Puerto Iguazú

tl;dr: best experience in Iguazu (with permission of the Falls, of course).

After a couple of misses searching for the perfect “Parrilla”, we decided to go for Malbec a tad pricier than the local competition. Wife and I, plus two kids (1 and 4). It’s been a long day hiking the falls and we were tired and hungry. I hope this review doesn’t fall short of our appreciation for the place. Our server Julia was very accommodating to our requests, which when traveling with kids it’s so welcome. We ordered the pasta for the kids, morcilla for us as appetizers. The morcilla was so amazing my kids ate our first serving and had to order seconds.

When we moved to the main course we ordered the picanha and the vacío (iron steak). Don’t let it fool you: this was the most tender picanha we have had in our lives (and we are meatheads who pride ourselves in good eats when back home). Brazilians do not have the exclusive to mastering this piece of the beef anymore (and using Rafain as gauge, Malbec beats them by a mile). The angus vacío is easily the best iron steak I’ve had in my life. Tender like a ribeye and so flavorful. Both pieces of meat were cooked perfectly to order (medium rare) and the sides were amazing too. I am ashamed I had to leave some fries behind because the portions were generous and the grilled veggies, usually a “meh” for me, had me going back for them.

Some added bonus: alioli that comes with complimentary bread is dangerous- it’s great but save yourself for the meat! Also the best chimichurri sauce came with the morcilla, it had some hints of smokiness that elevates it above any other chimichurri we’ve been served in Argentina.

House red wine is a perfectly balanced Malbec- definitely go for it if a full bottle is,by volume, a stretch for you.

We left in a meat-coma without trying deserts, and that was our mistake. Can’t imagine what this fantastic place has in store in that department.

Dit geloof je niet. Wij zijn het ook niet gewoon om negatief te zijn in de vele reviews die we al jaren doen. Maar bij deze MOETEN WE EEN UITZONDERING MAKEN, we hebben ook zware twijfels over de reviews. Een zeer mooi ogende zaak geen twijfel. Maar de uitbating is het tegenovergestelde. Een wijn restaurant met ook een wijn winkel die een super keuze heeft in de winkel. Maar in het restaurant krijg je een (slordige)wijnkaart die deels uit elkaar valt. De EERSTE 2 wijnen van de kaarten de we bestellen hebben ze niet de 3de is niet goed volgens de ober??? Ze doen dan een voorstel /aanbeveling van wijn die niet op de kaart staat??.zonder dat er eerst geïnformeerd word wat we gaan eten?? Gelukkig was de wijn lekker, maar op kamer temperatuur van de zaak. +/-35° Gelukkig zonder probleem kregen we ijsemer. Vlees grill restaurant met 5tal vlees keuze. Je geloofd het niet we vragen T boon. Hebben ze NIET. Dan maar tomahawk 1.2kg staat erbij vermeld. Zie foto.er moet wat vet zijn maar meer vet en been dan vlees?? Het stop nog niet. De frietjes die afzonderlijk moeten bijbetaald worden zijn te licht en SLECHTS 1x gebakken ipv van zoals het MOET 2x. De groenten die ook niet inbegrepen zijn, is de kwaliteit ver te zoeken. En zwijg dan nog over de gernalen. Na de vele restaurant ervaringen in Argentinië was dit beneden alle pijl. Er is ook geen kaart in Engels en iemand die Engelse taal machtig is. De Airco (2) werd ook zo maar uitgedaan voor een 2tal klanten de andere 20 moesten het maar uitzweten tot het niet meer te doen was en een aantal personen naar wat verkoeling vroegen. This is an average restaurant masquerading as a fine dining restaurant.

Service started out great but the server ended up forgetting about us. When it came time to pay, the server brought a credit card machine to the table but said they only took cash. I said I only have a credit card. The server took and processed the card payment.

We got the picanha steak. Four cuts came out. Two of the four cuts tasted great, delicious. The other two cuts tasted a bit off, a bit fishy.
