We attended the hub Tavern last Thursday for a late lunch. We arrived just after 1 pm. The restaurant was not busy but there were other people there at the tables. Parking – I recommend parking in the car park next to the Tavern where there is a physio vet etc. You can then walk up the ramp around the front of the building and to the side walk across to the hub Tavern on the flat. This entrance would also be wheelchair accessible. If you enter from the roadside, it is all steps. It would be great if they put a cement path from the Tavern across to the footpath where the group of shops physio etc is this would be particularly helpful when the weather is wet such as the day we attended it was raining while we were there. On entry to the Tavern we were greeted by staff member Shea. She was friendly and her customer service was excellent. She would be amongst one of the best servers I have come across in all of the restaurants I have been to. She is brilliant at her job. As I have a white cane, she noticed this and gave menus to the other two adults With me and seated up seated us. She came across to the table with us and let me know that there was a QR code on the table and then if I have a screen reader on my phone such as with an iPhone, I could use this and it would read the menu to me. The training she had on accessibility was excellent. We started with drinks and a dips platter. The dips platter was my highlight. There was a guacamole, beetroot and a tzatziki dip. Served with warmed flatbread. The beetroot dip was incredible and well worth trying. Main meals – unfortunately this is where the Tavern let itself down a little bit. I ordered the lunch special of Salt-N-Pepa squid, we also had a main serve of Salt-N-Pepa squid at our table and schnitzel with vegetables. The squid was very crunchy and very chewy. I think it was slightly overcooked so it was not tender. The schnitzel was served with zucchini, pumpkin and mashed potato. The schnitzel and the mashed potato were good however the zucchini and the pumpkin were burnt. Hopefully this was just a bad day for the cook and we are going to give it another go on a night time to see if this is their consistent meals or a one off. I am hoping it is a one off as the service was so good. The staff were friendly and definitely lifted the score for the Tavern. I will give an update after we have been back as to what the meals are like food wise. As If you’re looking for a location to go for a drink and some dips, perhaps the sports bar to watch a game of sport I would...
Read moreWell I've never been there before I'm not really a drinker but my kids are fight fans so we went there to see the Kabib fight but a combination of daylight savings and just not knowing what time food started to be served and the main event started meant that despite being non drinkers we were there for about 4 hours. So you can't buy coffee in a sports bar but you can get it in the saloon area and you are allowed to bring it into the sports bar. Food on Saturday and Sunday is $10 so we thought the serves would be small. They weren't and I struggled to finish mine. In the end I relented and started drinking good old West end beers that were $5 a glass. At the Tonsley hotel and I suspect most others it's $8 for what is euphemistically called a pint. It was well attended but there's heaps of screens and you don't have to worry about where you are going to sit or getting there too early like we did. We did not regret the extra time we spent there as it was pleasant affordable spacious and attractive. Service was excellent efficiency and friendliness at the fore. More trees in the car park to create a bit more shade would be nice and in the sports bar there is only one sink to wash your hands in the toilet but all in all its pretty good and that's just the sports bar the rest of it is downright sophisticated and pleasant and I would love to spend an afternoon in...
Read moreAny one with coeliac disease should give this pub a miss. Ordered all GF serves, beef cheeks, the GF icecream in a tall glass. Firstly spent all night being very ill, the sauce from the beef cheeks was marked on the menu GF, would have been the culprit. Ordered the icecream to share. Out it came with the biscuit sticks shoved in to the top. Called the really nice waitress over and explain the issue, which she fully understood about GF. Out to the kitchen she went and the person informed her the biscuit sticks were OK and on looking at the container which stated wheat. She came back to inform me the icecream was NOT GF as well. The menu that these 2 items were marked GF. The menu is falsely stating that certain items are GF. I really think that manager/owner should make sure what they advertise is true. Special thanks to the waitress who sorted this situation out. COELIAC DISEASE IS A LIFE THREATENING DISEASE. People who suffer from disease CANNOT ingest any type of WHEAT, OATS, BARLEY and RYE. I hope that this information will be a help to the manager/owners.
