Our experience at Ampika’s was such a disappointment that I find it hard to surmise in a single review. The entire experience was so average that I was expecting Gordon Ramsay to pop his head up and tell us we were on camera.
We ordered coke - What we received soda water with a mild infusion of coke. Obviously trying to make the syrup go the extra mile…
We ordered lemon pepper squid - What we received was an over cooked conglomerate of squid rings that were still attached under the breadcrumbs. Having no knife provided we set about trying to pull rings apart with our fingers at the table. The squid was accompanied by a weird celery soup with other random bits of vegetables floating in it. We opted not to use the soup after tasting and ate the squid as-is. Unfortunately it tasted more like burnt bread, as the oil tasted like it hadn’t been changed in the past few weeks.
The Bangkok rice was tolerable, but the chicken was dry and over cooked, and it came presented in a cone in the middle of the plate (again, no serving cutlery) and was barely above room temperature as though pre-made and reheated. We had to ask for plates to be able to share the dish.
The green curry was again tolerable, but by no means fresh. The vegetables were soft and clearly from a frozen packet.
We both took a pit-stop at the loo and, while the women’s was ok the men’s left something to be desired. A general lack of cleanliness throughout the restaurant itself seemed to multiply in the bathroom with mould and stains around the place
Before popping back out to the dining area, while wandering down the hallway back to seating I couldn’t help but notice a giant chest freezer with texta writing on top that read “seafood”. Unfortunately with the majority of dishes costing $25 and up we realised that what we were eating was neither fresh, nor cooked with any real care.
Save your money, buy Thai seasoning or curries from Woolies and you’ll enjoy a better...
Read moreBooked table several days in advance and confirmed on the day of the 7pm booking. Great atmosphere and ordered entree and main for 2 people. The mains arrived and we asked about the entrees which we then said we'd eat after we had finished our mains which were delicious but the entrees(2x crumbed prawns fried with coconut,) came whilst we had really only had a couple of mouthfuls of the Pad thai/Bombay noodles so we again said we would eat the entrees after we had eaten the mains. The waiter said he'd leave the entrees on our table but we asked if they could be taken away and appear when we had finished our mains. We expected to be given hot fresh prawns but what appeared when mains were finished were soggy, dull cold prawns which we suspect simply sat on a counter until re- served. I thought we had been very accommodating and friendly not making a fuss and having a giggle about the back to front meal When we paid the account we did not receive an apology or offer of a discount and when we got back to our room we discovered we had been charged for a GSM wine at $36 instead of the $30 Scarpintonni Shiraz which had been a 2018, not the listed 2017(we didn't quibble about the different vintage) All in all a disappointing night when we were celebrating 25years of renewing our vows and me being cancer free following breast cancer. They really couldn't have given a damn. Would not go there again Subsequently we were called by the owner a couple of days after the meal and on the day we posted this review. He apologised sincerely and has offered to refund us the cost of the wine/entree and claimed he was devastated by our experience. We accepted his apology and restated our main course dishes were...
Read moreUnfortunately I cannot comment on the food or even drinks as we were not given an opportunity to orders.
2 weeks ago tonight, my husband and I attempted to try Ampika's Kitchen (very rare date night opportunity) as I've always wanted to go. We phoned ahead to make sure they had a table available, arrived and waiting for in excess of 40 mins without so much as even a drinks order being taken.... no acknowledgement from any staff member... we just sat..... until we up and left
I truly wanted to give them the right of reply, As a business I would have thought they would like to address the issue that occured and contact me, I think every business should have the opportunity to address any concerns directly to avoid negative feedback growing as its tough out there. I'm just deeply disappointed.... even as we were walking out the same person who originally seat us said in passing toward the back "will be with you soon" and we said sorry, we are leaving as have been waiting towards an hour with no orders taken and they didn't even turn around, apologise not an iota of response/reply to that even. Terribly sad that in times where many business are struggling some just don't seem to care about patronage experience or service
I reached out via FB messenger the very same night and followed up a week later as they had SEEN the message but not replied. The same happened with my follow up message.... SEEN and no response. The radio silence received back certainly matches the customer service (or lack there of) received on the night. Messages have been seen and ignored. Just like we were seated and ignored.
So very...
