I've been a regular at Café Anthony, usually dropping by once or twice a month. Recently, I've had a few letdowns that made me decide to finally share my thoughts.
Whenever I order chicken kottu roti, I ask for some extra chicken gravy, offering to pay more for it. Sadly, my requests seem to fall on deaf ears. The staff's reaction makes it feel like I'm asking for something out of the ordinary.
Having kothu roti without a side of meat curry just doesn't cut it for me. Unfortunately, my latest kothu roti was the worst I've ever had – lacking the usual flavors and moisture.
Most places usually throw in a bit of meat curry for free with kothu roti, but I've never experienced that here. I hope the owner, if from Sri Lanka, understands the traditional way kothu roti is served.
One more thing – I can't confirm, but I hope there's no MSG in the food. There are plenty of ways to make tasty dishes without it.
We pay for quality, and I hope Café Anthony pays attention to these concerns. No proper photos to share, but I hope my...
Read moreI'm currently visiting my Son in Adelaide, and being Sri Lankan he took me to have hoppers last night to Cafe Anthony. Unfortunately, the quality of the hoppers and small portion of the chiken curry was of very poor quality and standard. Sadly the food just doesn’t taste as fresh or flavorful like some others have mentioned. The hoppers were made even long before we arrived and was hard and not fresh and crispy as it should be. The food given to us was cold and not hot. Their wattalapam didn't taste anything like to traiditional Sri Lankan one. In my opinion it's a bad show of displaying the traditional Sri Lankan food to the people of Adelaide.
It give me the feeling this place is run more like a home kitchen than a proper take away resturant.
A few days ago we visited this place and and got some take away food like rolls, buns, kimbula buns, toast paan etc.. and the quality of the food was good, hence the decesion to try out...
Read moreOrdered on Doordash tonight, very disappointed experience: First of all, lamb curry was replaced with chicken curry without calling us. We didn’t want the chicken curry, so we called to change to chicken string hoopers, which was accepted by the restaurant. But they clearly misunderstood our order and gave us curry with no meat at all (only 2 piece of potatoes?, ooked like the remains of someone’s dinner…) plus a container of dry string hoppers. Just imagine how upset we were when received the food… BTW the food was late for 30 minutes as well… We ended up mixed the chicken Koththu and the string hoppers together for our dinner. The food was tasty and definitely deserves a four star, but please contact your customer before...
