As a lad from Yorkshire, I believe I can quite safely educate my Iraqi born fiancé on where to get the best fish and chips, roast dinners and pints of bitter (oh the tastes of home). When my fiancé tells me about a new falafel joint that she wants to try, it's time to sit down, prick up my ears, and get ready to be well and truly schooled in all things chickpea.
When we visited Dubai last year, I was taken to one of her childhood institutions, The Bride of Damascus, where we had, what I thought at the time, the greatest falafel in the world. The Syrian variety of falafel has a slightly different appearance, slightly flat discs with a little hole in the middle. I never knew that falafel could be so comforting and so moreish.
Fast forward to today and as we entered Falafel Station, I felt that I had a benchmark when it came to the crisp chickpea snack. I thought to myself "look, it might not end up being as good as that place in Dubai, but at least its only a walk away". The beautiful family that greeted us immediately made us feel so welcome, pretty much guaranteeing our status as lifelong regulars before we had even thought about what we were going to order.
We eventually decided to try a couple of breakfast items, foul and fetteh, and share a falafel wrap. Every single thing we ordered was executed with such care and skill. Everything is homemade and you can taste that love in every bite. This is quite simply the best falafel I have ever had in my life. I'm sorry Bride of Damascus, you will always have a place in our hearts, but there's a new girl in town and she's a bloody stunner.
After having a wonderful chat with the family, it was time to head off home with a last minute extra portion of falafel for the fridge. Oh and baklava, they also do the greatest baklava in the world. Its beautifully decadent, Mazen's french cookery background clearly coming to the party with the way the pastry melts in your mouth and into your dreams.Imagine absolutely nailing two of the most popular Middle Eastern foods in one fell swoop and selling them in suburban Adelaide? Well that's what Mazen and Sahar have done. Go now, support local, do yourself a favour. You will...

We started with soft fried eggs seasoned with zaatar, served on toasted bread with a side of picked cabbage, olive and labneh and makdous (picked baby eggplants stuffed with walnuts and chilli - trust me this stuff is awesome).
We had a zaatar toastie on the side, serve of falafels and the pièce de résistance, fuul... Cooked brown fava beans and chickpeas, seasoned with lemon, garlic and olive oil, with a hint of chilli and chopped parsley.
The fuul was honestly the best I've had anywhere in Australia, and from what I can think, anywhere in the world, and I am not exaggerating either. The falafels are definitely the best I've had in years. Everything is so fresh and cooked to order. Nothing pre-made or microwaved or sitting in a counter.
The owner, a very experienced and well travelled chef, and his wife have a passion for our food and culture and really know how to make good hearty and healthy food. They serve us what they would make at home and make it with love and do not skimp on quality and ingredients.
We finished it off with some amazing sweets too, baklawa and namoura (baked semolina cake with syrup). In all very authentic. Even the Lebanese coffee tasted like it was made with love. Looking forward to making Falafel Station one of our regular go-to places in Adelaide ❤️❤️🇱🇧🇱🇧 #LebaneseInAdelaide #AdelaideSmallBusiness...
Read moreA lovely family from Lebanon who settled in Adelaide has started this business where you can smell the sun and the sea of their coastal city of Origin, Sidon. Taste, service and staff are 10 out of 10. Why heading to notoriously noisy Sydney then for middleastern food if you have these legends few minutes drive away here in Adelaide. You can talk to this family running this small business in three languages, Arabic, English and French. They will tell you about their journey to Australia and their shop back in Sidon. The photos on the walls to tell that they are new in Prospect, Adelaide but their career roots are ancient and been in business for years. The space inside is limited but it is fairly simple and enough for families and small to medium groups. Today I tried Falafel wrap and Fatteh! They were amazingly delicious. It is recommended to try a different things each time you visit this restaurant. They have a variety of vegetarian and vegan on their menu. Plus, you can take home some traditional food in jars. I saw today some vegan Baklava sweets, but I successfully resisted that but will definitely try their sweets next time. Can't say any more, you need to try it as soon as possible. Take your friends and family, don't be a...
