Extremely disappointing customer service experience at Chapati House
Visited this restaurant with a friend and had one of the most unpleasant experiences before even getting to order. The place was practically empty, with just one table of two people seated in the corner. We simply asked to sit at a table of our choice, away from them, since the entire restaurant was open.
However, the server hesitated and insisted we sit right next to the only other customers there. She even moved a larger table closer to them and refused to let us sit just one table away, saying she “might need to join tables if more people came in.” We politely mentioned that we’d be happy to move if that situation arose, but she walked off with a visibly grumpy attitude.
This encounter completely ruined our mood to dine there. We ended up walking out without ordering anything. When leaving, she asked why we weren’t eating — we told her honestly that her attitude had ruined our dining experience.
It’s disappointing to see such poor customer service when all we wanted was a pleasant meal and a bit of space in an empty restaurant. Definitely not a welcoming experience, and we won’t be returning. -----‐------------------‐------------------‐------------------‐------ Reply to Owner's Comment:- Thank you for your reply, Mr./Ms. Owner. Your response is the clearest confirmation of why our experience was so disappointing. The arrogance and hostility in your comment perfectly mirror the attitude we encountered from your staff — and now it’s obvious where it comes from.
Let’s be clear: our concern was never about a table policy. It was about the complete lack of courtesy and basic customer respect. We entered an EMPTY restaurant and politely asked to sit one table away from the only other diners, yet your staff refused and treated us with unnecessary attitude. A simple, respectful explanation would have been enough. Instead, we were met with defensiveness and control.
Your attempt to label us “entitled” just because we requested a bit of space speaks volumes about how you view your customers — as obstacles to your profit margins rather than guests to be welcomed. Your obsession with boasting about “110 covers” only highlights that what truly matters to you isn’t hospitality, it’s numbers.
If you genuinely cared about managing tables efficiently, a simple “Reserved” sign on select tables could have solved your so-called problem. Instead, you chose to argue and drive paying customers away — then proudly defend it online. That’s not business efficiency; that’s Ego.
A restaurant that values profit over people is not one that deserves returning customers. If you truly believe your food makes up for this attitude, perhaps visit places like Chatkazz — where respect, service, and genuine warmth still exist alongside great food.
And just to clarify — YES!!! customers are ENTITLED to customer service. Expecting basic respect, courtesy, and the freedom to choose a seat in an EMPTY restaurant isn’t “entitlement”; it’s the bare minimum of hospitality. What’s truly entitled is believing you can treat customers poorly and still expect their business.

Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. The minute you walk in, the smell hits you. And you can see the open styled kitchen at the back, which gives it character as you can watch the Cooks preparing and making the neals.
We went on a Saturday afternoon, fortunately it wasn't busy and were able to get a table. Bookings might be needed if you're planning a big group. But there are enough seats and table spaces to accommodate a few out of random like what we did. We did notice they do pick up/take away too. Lots of people walking in getting their orders.
The wait wasn't that long, 5 minutes and we got some bread and a delicious mint dipping sauce which tasted like a mix of greek yoghurt and mint, nice and refreshing for mild to hot mains I guess too. That was really nice!
We ordered the Beef Rojan Josh, Masala Vegetables, simple white rice to share and the Goat Curry. With a cheesy Dahl bread.
Everything was amazing! The dishes are brought out separate, so you can share the dishes amongst yourselves on a separate plate. The meat was super tender, the curry goat was on the bone and quite fun to play with. But watch out and chew carefully, this meat is real on the bone!
The veggies were a nice side too, they were in a lovely creamy curry which went well with all our dishes. Cooked to perfection.
Staff are the most inviting, polite and bubbly type. And are quite happy to answer any questions about their dishes. I love how you can watch the cooks making the meals, not tucked away hidden and distant from their dinning room and customers. I think it's a great place with real genuine Indian food. The portion sizes are superb. Our order filled us up really well, a larger group might need a few bowls of rice or other sides if they wanted to try something different each and share.
Good affordable prices too, I was amazed at how affordable they are in comparisons to other Indian restaurants, that serve tiny portions. Super great value for money! With a good selection of wines, beers, sofy drinks and deserts. Might get a bit warm in summer though, with the kitchen right there. But I did see an AC unit and they have fans.
Definitely will be back again. Delicious good real food made with love.
10/10 Sorry no photo's. Food was too good to pause on and we dug right in! Thanks guys,...
Read moreI will have to put this review as a fairly long one.We are from melbourne visiting our friends here in adelaide.Chosen this restaurant based on the google reviews to dine in for dinner last night. The restaurant was really busy with dine-in and takeaways when we arrived at around 7:30 which was very reassuring and we thought we have made the right choice. The staff seems friendly and helpful. We ordered entrees & multiple main courses mostly breads & curries. The food arrived reasonably quickly, but then we realised the true problems.Every single curries had too much added food colour. So after dine in we needed to wash our hands,so used this handwash which was in the corner of their kitchen. The things i have seen in this congested kitchen will give me nightmares for a while iam sure. The kitchen was looking filthy, not even the basic food safety standards are followed here, the most shocking part was that they store the pre-made gravies in the big used yoghurt cans.I really wonder how the local council give certification to such places to operate. Not a single word i have mentioned here is false or exaggerated.I really hope this place will put some serious efforts to improve their quality & standards in the near future. But i personally wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone based on my experience😢😢😢 In response to the reply from the owner-Thanks for your detailed explanation though it very evidently reflects an aggressive, defensive & unprofessional tone.Iam glad that atleast you agreed that your kitchen was messy & you uses empty yogurt cans to store the food.I really hope your pride will sustain the success of your business, but i really wish your could add some courtesy & humility to the pride which will satisfy the customers.Wish you all the best.More than happy to come & meet you in person next time we visit adelaide if the keyboard is the factor which annoyed you.All the very best for your...
