No Grins but Painful and way too CHEEKY.
We read the 71 'reviews' with 5 stars. So, hey, let's try it out.
Ouch! I mean, OUCH! Everything was cheap and nasty.
Tables were rickety fold-aways that looked and felt only just semi-stable. The cutlery looked like it was from the local tip, grubby and thin. In fact, so thin that on cutting my Focaccia the fork folded like Uri Geller was showing a fork-bending trick. Coffee was a pass, just a pass. The food was not freshly made on-site but obviously shipped in. The web site showcased beautiful pastries but NONE were on site at 12 noon. Poor, very poor. Staff were friendly and pleasant. The REAL DEAL-BREAKER was the so-called background music. Oh dear. Oh, oh, oh dear! PAINFUL ear-bashing Hip-Hop and we were seated outside!
So, forget a pleasant, relaxing coffee and pastry with your pram and pals. No, no. This was mediocre caffeine with lashings of stress! And who gave all those stars, your mates?
We left FAST but will we be back? And if that is us what of others? This is why small business die; poor standards driving custom away.
Here is our advice to the owners. Yes, listen to honest feedback: Cafés are NOT nightclubs! Who wants an EAR-BASHING with gutter American, semi-violent Hip-Hop cacophonies?! Only the brainless, braindead or deaf? Pop over to BIG W and pay a few dollars for presentable tableware and cutlery. It is not expensive and it makes a difference. And make sure it is spotlessly clean; ALWAYS. Remember this word from school, BACTERIA? Never advertise produce you do not have. It makes you look fake. Like you, customers want a clean, relaxing café experience not a cheap, grubby, stressful, in-your-face ear-bashing.
Go on, Cheeky Grin, you can do it if you try a...
Read moreI have been coming to cheeky grin for some time and feel like it is time I leave a review! The coffee is pretty damn good, the food is okay and the atmosphere is what you want for your local..it is bustling, and offers a great weekend 'vibe'.
I enjoy pretty much everything about the place, but, when ordering a toasted panini you have to either ask for it to be extra toasted or risk that it will likely come out cold on the inside and warm on the outside. I have been hesitant to write this review because of this reason. However, I am including this in my review because my cold panini hasn't been a 1 time thing, it is just about every time (and trust me, I am there a fair bit), so I feel a bit like a mad women when I have to emphasise that I want my panini 'extra toasted'...I don't ever make a fuss if it doesn't come out hot/warm but it does get a little bit annoying after time and time again. I do keep coming back though because it is great asides from that, but feel that it is worth mentioning because no one wants a luke warm panini when they ordered a toasted...
Read moreThis used to be a good Cafe when it had just opened. Nowadays the coffee isn't anything special any more, clearly made in a rush and tastes burnt. On top of that, our experience last time was horrible with the Cafe owner shouting across the room to ask us to stop our 2-year-old from making noises. Not kid friendly at all I would say.
Just an edit after the response: I wanted to mention the great pastries and support for local artists and make this 3 stars. Though I will keep it a 1 as I am very disappointed with the response. I just don't understand how a toddler could possibly "damage property" by moving his little leg in a seated position. Even then, we wouldn't have minded if we were asked to stop...
