Haven't been here in years (used to be regulars) and thought we would try it with the kids for the first time.
Nice atmosphere but quite noisy (and wasn't even full). Were shown to our table which we made a booking for and immediately noticed that not everyone had been allocated cutlery. Figured someone would notice and bring some but no one did until I had to ask for some after the meals were delivered.
Food was nice though I would consider servings small for the price (note that this is compared to other pub/hotels in the area). Kids meal deal is good value if the kids want a drink and dessert. The activity pack wasn't worth the $2 price tag but as it came with the meal deal and I did not pay extra for it, it was adequate.
The first thing I noticed was the lack of sour cream on my schnitzel...about a heaped teaspoon worth, which for a 350g schnitzel. Considering it was an additional $6.50 for the topping of bacon, sweet chilli, cheese and sour cream, I feel that they could afford to be a bit more generous with the sour cream....
Secondly, the first chip I picked up was uncooked...still firm and partly frozen which I only realised as I took my first bite. The rest were cooked nicely with a crispy batter so I'm thinking it was a mistake and one of the chips had simply not made it into the fryer.
Thirdly I thought it strange that to get any beverage, you have to get served at the front bar. So you can't even order drinks when you order your meal and have to walk to the front bar to get served.
Fourthly, between not giving us enough cutlery for the table and forgetting to give us the kids activity books and having to go to the bar to order drinks, it made the meal challenging. I was there with 3 children without my partner and having to constantly get up and walk to the order counter because of little things that should have not been an issue made the meal more stressful and challenging even though the issues were small.
However the food is tasty and well cooked and presented and the staff are friendly even if they aren't as attentive as they should be. The atmosphere is pleasant and if we were in the area, we would come back and hope for a better experience. At least the kids enjoyed it and that's saying something... P.s. the chocolate brownie is pretty good - probably earned the 3rd star all...
Read moreMy wife, daughter and son in law dined here 16Jan16, I must say they exceeded my expectations, I dined here once before and it took just over an hour for our orders to be served. When they did arrive last time I must say the schnitzel was very tender. This time mine took an hour and 40 minutes. I had trouble reading the menu (my fault no glasses although it did have small print and a silly background obscuring the words), so I ordered the SC special because I made out the words chilli sauce opps SC = sweet chilli. Anyway they served my family around the hour mark, it was busy we were happy enough to wait, we tried the salad bar, this was probably the worst salad bar I have ever experienced, the healthy option was very tired lettuce and beets from a can, the rest were indescribable horrors Mayo with pasta, noodles or potatoes, not the best, still I thought I will eventually receive a tender schnitzel, 5 minutes after my family was served the waitress advised me there had been an error with our order and the schnitzel was too small so they had started to redo mine and i would be served next, Ok these things happen, they could have given me the small one and a drink for the difference but I guess they weren't capable of that kind of latitude, so I waited. 14 plates of food went by the doorway to the kitchen were we were seated and my family had all but finished before I asked politely what was happening. When my schnitzel arrived it was full of gristle, tough and the surrounds were oily, and burnt, it made me feel unwell, the waiting staff were ok the blonde waitress kindly apologised several times, red was a little less friendly, the bar guy was nice, the cook...
Read moreI took my family, my mother who was visiting from interstate and my mother in law. We had an awful experience here caused by the venue manager - a mid aged blonde lady who was aggressive, rude and abrupt to myself and my two children. It is the second time we’ve seen this woman behave this way. Her attitude and disdain was evident towards us to the point we ended up not ordering and walking out - and this was before 6pm. This was all over my two toddlers who were standing near to the game room whilst I ordered. They were NOT in the game room but she was overly aggressive towards us and downright rude. We are locals and I will never eat here again nor will I recommend or bring anyone here again such was the severity of her behaviour. My husband asked to speak to her given her rudeness to me and she sent a duty manager over. Then came over later and argued with us - changed her story several times about where my children were when I ordered. Absolutely disgusting service by a venue manager and we will never ever return. Furthermore, anyone that has children, I would STRONGLY advise not to come here for your family meal in case they look even sideways at the bright lights from the game room visible from the dining room. Im absolutely disgusted at our treatment. On the flip side, we had lovely friendly service at the Cremorne Hotel on Unley Road and the service here was another world compared to the the Earl of...
