Funk Coffee — Restaurant in Adelaide

Lunch ok, coffee don't bother...

Scenario, I've entered 25 minutes before close, all chairs inside everything packed up. Me: "Can I have a regular flat white with almond please?" Lovely front of house waitress "Yes sure I'll get the barista", money taken, caramel slice bagged up. Wait several minutes more barista appears from out back, takes a new cup from the machine top and then pours a previously pulled shot lying around on the machine out of another large paper cup into my regular size cup. That shot has obviously been sitting on the machine for more than 5 minutes... I engaged the barista and requested a fresh shot upon which time he said, "its just been poured seconds ago", I countered "I've been in the shop for more than 5 minutes and the crema will not transfer well either". He rejected this request for a fresh shot (that I had already paid good money for) and poured milk over the old cold shot.. The outcome is as could be expected, one star coffee and only because Google doesn't support no stars (which certainly describes his attitude and coffee creation.

This is the only coffee place near the building I work making me a captive hostage to the very average barista. The coffee has generally gotten better in the past few weeks due to a new machine being installed and the grind weighed / tuned by the install technician. Prior to the new machine the coffee was over extracted and tasted like burnt ants. Sadly further supporting the above interaction I had with him, the barista was on a break not watching nor engaged when the machine tuning was being done so likely the coffee will fall back to the poor standard previously made in the very near future.

The food is usually pretty fresh and the value for money is not fabulous but reasonable given the lack of any competing outlets within walking distance. The waitresses and female serving staff are always friendly and engaged, always a quick acknowledgement when you arrive. Its a pity the coffee lets this place down...

A small establishment, I arrived whilst a customer was being attended to and I was acknowledged! Well done Funk! Jason the barista made and served my takeaway coffee in a very pleasant manner, again, well done Funk! This cafe/post office close to the airport has a lot of potential traffic but still tries to efficiently keep everyone moving, again, well done. Lovely obliging friendly young women served us delightful coffee almond croissant and macadamia choc brownie in their Al fresco area . A quick scan of other food revealed a large range of variously filled long breads .
