What can I say? Well, before I start, I must confess that I will return, as the atmosphere and the location is superb but it's hardly the place I remember from years ago.
This afternoon started off so well, with a table magically becoming available just as we arrived. My partner and I put in a simple order of a bottle of white wine and obligatory oyster pairing. (Or is it the other way around?)
Anyway, the drinks were served promptly, yet we waited for thirty full minutes for a dozen natural oysters. I could shuck and plate six dozen in that time. Fine. They were busy.
Just after the oysters arrived, smash, the clumsy barmaid had dropped the first of two glasses from the counter. Unlike the second, the first unfortunately found its resting place at our mostly bare, beach-clad feet. Fine. Mistakes happen.
We were having a great time, despite these minor issues. Until I decided to visit the bathroom. I'd rather go to any, and I mean any beachside public bathroom than use the one at this establishment again. I can't speak for the other half, but the men's is awful. Having seen a chap guide his child barefoot into them earlier in the session, I can only hope they haven't contracted some terrible illness.
Further still, we were advised at 5PM the table was reserved at 6PM and we would need to clear the table, yet the staff felt it necessary to hound me 25 minutes later to move on. Little did they know I was in the process of writing this review.
Saving grace, we grabbed some gelati on the way out, and this is the perfect sweet note if you choose to stop by on the way back from visiting the Grange Beach...
Read moreMy soup was nearlly $18... so i did expect top notch garlic bread and excellent pumkin soup. There was plenty of soup and it was fine but not outstanding in any way ...but I was very dissappointed in the garlic bread ...As im a garlic freak i asked for extra garlic which has never been a problem in other places. When it came out it was one single very small piece and BURNT. I took one mouthful and had to spit it out...that has never happened to me in a resteraunt before...lucky i had a napkin. The waitress took the bread away away and returned with another saying the reason it was burnt is because i asked for extra garlic!...I got the feeling this was chef words...not hers...She was very nice and really trying to help. But one has to ask how come it was my fault when even the CRUSTS were black.... there was certainly no garlic on them! No customer should ever be blamed for burnt food. Ive made garlic bread at home and putting more garlic in the butter has never made it burn!
Thou the new piece was not burnt it had a strange unpleasant taste...its so easy to make beautiful garlic bread with real garlic and real butter and at that price anyone would expect quality ingredients. These were not quality ingredients. It was very dissappointing to get their garlic bread for a second time and not to be able to enjoy the taste after being blamed for burning the first piece....all...
Read moreRefusal by staff and management to accept a reusable coffee cup when other vendors in area and surrounds have no issue (and many offer discounts for it). Concerns around Covid cited but there have been multiple studies indicating contamination is very low risk with reusable cups, and additionally, the same low risk applies with disposable cups. With Grange Jetty Cafe benefitting greatly from proximity to the beach and marine environment, makes no sense why they wouldn't support measures to protect natural surrounds. UPDATE. Understand a business' right to implement their own bespoke take on health and safety but hopefully it can be revised. If you refuse to accept reusable coffee cups, why not enforce mask wearing? This would surely protect staff and customers far more from forms of contamination. There are indeed bigger things to worry about but Grange Jetty Cafe could make a big difference for the environment, which is a hugely significant drawcard for business, with a small revision of anti-reusable cup policy. It's a small suggestion with...
