We have been to the restaurant many times and over that time the service and food has been very good. However last Saturday evening was a disaster from the time we entered. We (5 people in our party) had to wait ages to be shown to our table. When we went to place our order, again another long wait. When i went to order drinks there was only 1 couple in front of me, but because there is no drinks menu on the table, they took ages to work out what they wanted. As there was only one person on the bar i had to wait ages and eventually someone came from the other bar. In the meantime a singer had started which was far too loud, my partner asked for the sound to be reduced, but she was told that as it was live music, nothing could be done. ( I thought every artist used an amplifier these days !) We had ordered some garlic bread which eventually arrived. I thought our main meal would not be too long after that - I was totally wrong. We arrived at our table at 7.00pm, at 8;15 our meal had still not arrived. I went and queried what was happening, I was told "it's on the way" and they had been very busy. I looked around the restaurant and half of the tables were empty - so much for being busy. Our meals arrived eventually at 8.30. I had ordered kangaroo, it was so lightly done it was so chewy I could only eat half of it. The rest of the meals were average. We were offered free drinks after I queried where our meal was (we refused because we were so fed up with the wait). We were also given 2 $20.00 vouchers to use at the hotel in the future. On the service we received it is very unlikely we will return...
Read moreI was excited when I heard that the veggie bar was back but sorely disappointed that only half of it was back - chunks of pumpkin, over-cooked peas, carrots with slightly too much honey, small potatoes and a potato bake which was the nicest thing at the veggie bar. There was no rice, noodles or vegetable bake. The menu couldn't have been more generic - pretty much only burger, schnitzel, salad, steak or seafood - not a patch on previous menus, which, incidentally have not been updated on their website. They had run out of beef schnitzel, beef burger and prawns which cut the choices almost in half. I ended up having to make a choice from the specials which ended up being chicken and mushroom pie. Served with mash and runner beans it cost $32. The inside of the pie did not have a nice thick sauce but when I cut into the pie all the watery liquid drained out onto the plate. I get much better pies from the frozen food section at the supermarket. The mash was delicious though. The service was brilliant but it was overall a massive disappointment. Until The Hampstead has new management, a new menu, a new chef and returns to its former glory, I will not be returning or recommending this...

Great food, steak perfectly med-rare and chilli spaghetti and prawns so tasty!
Big changes here so congratulations to management and staff.
About to do a big lap of Australia so hope to be back, but to all the punters and locals out there, come and try this hotel out.
P.S. Best salad and veggie bar in the Northern Suburbs. Signing out, adios Adelaide
April 2023 - 5 Stars Eye Fillet steak was burnt and I left half. I left a note. I had the manager and a staff member we already knew well, Toni, chase us up and correct the issues. Above and beyond and a nice touch showing they do have great customer service and client satisfaction targets.
Daniel, the Venue Manager reached out and it is comforting to see a switched on leader there
P.S. Did I mention how focused and totally cyborg targeted Toni is, on running the place 10 Stars
August 2022 - 3 Star Was not the best food but will try again
Mar 2022 - 4 stars Great improvement from first visit. Toni who is front of house most days makes this hotel pub grub...
