The food here was nice, with a good selection to choose from. I was able to try several different dishes and sample most of the menu.
The entrance is located behind the main road, with parking available there. However, as the parking area is shared with other businesses, spots can be limited. There’s also on-street parking on the side street if needed.
One thing to note is that some menu items are not listed on the app. If you want specific dishes, it’s easier to order directly rather than relying on the QR code or website.
Food & Drinks
Mushroom Truffle Toastie - Really nice and full of flavour.
Rice Kimchi Scramble - Tasty and not too spicy, though it had a bit too much furikake for my liking.
Pistachio Papi French Toast - Absolutely delicious! Probably one of the best items on the menu. Unique, flavourful, and not overly sweet.
Chilli Honey Avo Smash - Another solid choice.
Eggs Benny - Unfortunately, this was a letdown. There was far too much garlic, which left us with stomach issues for the rest of the afternoon. It also came out lukewarm, making it less enjoyable. That said, the lemon myrtle sauce was fantastic and gave it a unique twist.
Coffee Flight - Great value for trying three different coffees, and overall very enjoyable.
Mocha - Excellent; they use Belgian chocolate, which gives it a rich but not overly sweet or heavy taste.
Zeppoli - Light, with a nice texture and flavour.
Kids Menu The kids’ menu is a bit impractical. The portion sizes are large, and many of the included items aren’t ideal for younger children. It might be better value to simply order standard eggs on toast instead.
Service & Experience This is where the experience really fell short. When I’m paying restaurant-level prices for breakfast, I expect restaurant-level service - but that hasn’t been the case on either of my visits.
On both occasions, our coffees arrived after the meals, taking around 25-30 minutes to come out, despite us arriving early when there were very few customers. It’s especially frustrating when a simple babycino takes that long while food is already being served - it’s just frothed milk, after all.
To make matters worse, I made a booking in advance, but when we arrived, the staff couldn’t find it in their system. Even after I showed them the confirmation email, there was no apology, and we were seated outside. This defeated the purpose of booking, especially since we came with two young children, requested a high chair, and specifically wanted indoor seating. It didn’t rain, but it was cold, and we had to use our own blankets to keep the kids warm.
Final Thoughts The food is good, and there are a few standout dishes, but the service really lets this place down. Between the long coffee wait times, booking issues, and lack of consideration for families, it’s hard to justify the premium prices. Until they improve their workflow - particularly in the barista area - I wouldn’t...
Read moreHad the most wonderful break with my daughter at Yolk. I was really in the mood for a coffee and I had things to do in the Walkerville area, so Yolk was the go. Beautiful day and we even managed to score a table outside without a booking, on a busy Saturday morning. Well, it’s just gorgeous in their outdoor area, with shade umbrellas, surrounding planter boxes and even a vertical garden on an exposed wall that would have otherwise just been a blank, white wall. We were there for a coffee and breather so no food, but a cappuccino and an iced matcha latte were enjoyed. Love the atmosphere inside and they have really interesting looking, boutique merchandise. Very Scandi and minimalist decor but with trailing, leafy plants it avoids looking cold. It’s actually quite a vibrant, friendly ambience full of natural light. Some customers were working on their computers and others were just catching up. We were taking a breather after a busy and hectic week, with weekend chores ahead of us still. So putting off the chores at Yolk for a while seemed like a good idea! As we were paying, we spotted their pastries - with flavours like Vietnamese iced coffee and passionfruit doughnuts, and danishes that made your eyes seem bigger than your stomach, we chose a passionfruit doughnut to take away. These are from butter and toast and well, that passionfruit doughnut was just delicious. Just the right balance of tang and sweetness. Yum 😋 Need to get used to table service here again, when most cafes have counter ordering, yolk went old school and back to personal service… their service is quick and with a smile too. Again, the outdoor area is just lovely, especially on a sunny Saturday when chores are still waiting. What a way to while away a half hour or so before getting back to reality. I enjoyed my coffee, which was smooth and what I was looking for, and break partner really enjoyed her iced matcha latte, which arrived frothy and whipped looking. So inviting. The doughnut was a treat too. I will try food here sometime, as dishes there look and sound delicious from their menu. This is a lovely cafe to step back a minute and enjoy life! It can get busy so either choose your time or book first. We went for broke and managed an outside table. Perfect start to...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about my visit at Yolk today. I think what put me off the most was the food. My family (family of four) came to Yolk a few months ago and the food was AMAZING, probably some of the best food I had ever had. Today we went again hoping to recreate that experience and it was super disappointing. The first issue was the wait time. Granted it was super busy and we honestly didn't mind waiting, but the issue was that there were only two waiters/waitresses servicing and buying maybe 20 tables (the patio and outdoor area), so even though there were tables free, by the time they had been cleared the staff had run off to serve someone else and couldn't seat us. We had to actively ask to be seated. In saying that the staff were nice about it, my husband and I just didn't understand how such a busy cafe could only have 2 staff servicing a large area. We ordered a meal almost straight away with two coffees and unfortunately because of how busy the space was, the staff member forgot our drinks and i had to ask 30min after where they were. I don't blame the staff member but definitely rostering issue. The next issue was that there were no savoury vegetarian options except for eggs and toast and then you add on what you like (extras). Which to be honest is a very strange concept, sometimes you just don't feel like meat for breakfast and want something without bacon or beef? The eggs themselves were cold and rubbery and chewy. We used to get the chilli scrambled eggs and they were delicous. From memory they did have a meat option but was just as delicious without the meat. The banana bread was nice but at the end of the day it is banana bread and the strawberry hotcakes were covered in defrosted frozen strawberries and tasted eggy. I really loved Yolk but today was just disappointing. If the food was yum we wouldn't have mind waiting 40min for our food but 40min for banana bread and simple eggs on toast and average pancakes, but the overall experience just meant we left feeling sad. I don't think we will be back any time soon and I wouldn't recommend it either....
