Read moreAh, maybe it's just my stellar luck that I end up being let down whenever I walk into a restaurant with sky-high expectations. I mean, a 4.9-star rating, right? You'd think you were in for something amazing, but instead, I found myself sliding downhill faster than a grease fire.
Let's dive in, starting with the starters.
Amritsari Fish – It was almost like the chef was going for that 'freshly-caught-off-a-fishnet' vibe. If I wanted to feel like I was chewing on river water while sitting on the bank, I’d have gone fishing myself.
Chicken Tikka – Now, I’ve had chicken tikka in every other place in Adelaide and cooked it at home countless times. So, imagine my shock when I was handed four unremarkable, overpriced pieces of mediocrity. Extraordinary? No. Extra pricey? Absolutely.
Papdi Chaat / Hara Bhara Kebab – I'll give the chef a break here. It's really my fault for ordering the right dish in the wrong place.
I understand paying for ambiance and presentation – I really do. But for once, I'd love if my money also brought me some actual taste and quality n bit of value. Instead, I found myself with a pit in my stomach, not from the food, but from the sheer regret of spending my hard-earned cash. God forbid me for speaking ill about food, infact ishould be grateful to be lucky enough to have food but I am extermely disgusted with myself for tonight.
Now, on to the main course:
Lamb Shank / Lamb Korma – Where do I even start? We couldn’t take more than a single bite. It’s like the fish all over again: they missed the memo about how cooking involves removing the smell and actually making it edible. Sure, they nailed the part about ‘eating with your eyes,’ and the nose? Yeah, that too – unfortunately. At that point, I was satisfied just smelling the disappointment.
Chicken Tikka Masala / Kadhai – Finally, something decent. The Kadhai was actually good – the lone hero in tonight's saga of sadness. But the Chicken Tikka Masala? It was just the same old starter drowning in some gravy to disguise itself as a 'different' dish.
Chicken Biryani – Yet another case of ordering the right dish in the wrong restaurant. Look, I love rice so much I’d probably eat stones if they were served with it, but even I couldn’t muster the will to touch this one. It sat there, untouched, just like my hopes and dreams for this dinner.
My housemates were eagerly awaiting this meal – we even skipped lunch to make space, you know, like real foodies do. But in the end, we had to stop at a food truck on the way home to fill up. That says a lot about our level of disappointment.
No offense to the restaurant – they’ve clearly worked hard for that glowing rating and have a staff that’s polite and courteous. But I won’t be back for seconds, and I wouldn’t dream of recommending it to anyone I actually care about. Its already like mission impossible to get everybody on dinner table, together once a week or fortnight but such experiences put cherry on top for staying apart for dinners.
Next time, I’ll stick to cooking at home - I mean what happened to your taste buds people? One star is still going up there. Thats oonnlyyy for the ambiance...
Read moreThe food is decent here but the staff’s refusal to feign even the slightest trace of warmth or courtesy was something that I shall remember for a very long time. This establishment has no interest in creating lasting relationships with it’s customers it is just all about the money.Truly sad and disappointing and this is coming from a loyal customer of years.
Also, just to be clear it was never about the price as we ended up spending more money with the other restaurant that we ended up choosing for the celebration but we did so willingly and gladly due to the excellent recommendations carefully tailored to suit our needs and also because we feel the price was justified and was excellent value for money. They actually took the time to listen to us and genuinely cared about creating beautiful memories on a very important and emotional day in our lives. We weren’t just treated like a number ,dismissed and ignored like Indian Club and all that after we had given glowing recommendations to these guys and sent multiple friends to dine with them over the years. So yes, definitely not about the money but the horrid experience dealing with the chef’s wife and co-owner.
Another disappointing aspect was their insistence on booking for 60 people minimum even though when we had initially confirmed with them over the call that we had 50 guests and needed the main hall and they had agreed upon the same and later went back on their words.I found that very unethical but still agreed and put in the initial booking deposit. Now i do understand and respect the fact that your requirement for the main hall is 60 guests due to your business requirements which is why we agreed and still went ahead with the booking ,i just find it disheartening that the same was not communicated over the phone call we had prior to coming in ,had we been advised we would have a clearer picture and may have looked at other options as well.I don’t know what led to that misunderstanding as we were led to believe that it’s fine to go ahead with 50 guests in the main hall.
The part that particularly disturbed me was when asked if our guests wanted to pack and take some food from the party for kids they flatly refused and said all the unused food would be thrown away instead! So we book for 60 people with 50 guests and the extra food cannot be taken or donated but has to be thrown away. That was just wrong on so many levels and morally i could not bring myself to allow such morbid wastage on my daughter’s birthday. They had no solid logic or reasoning behind this and the other restaurant willingly agreed to not only charge us based on the number of guests but also allow guests to pack and take some food home for kids and the elderly.
My humble suggestion - please work on your people skills as we are humans with emotions and not just numbers or money...
