Loved it!

I didn't even know this place existed till a friend of mine recommended it. I've driven past this small bank of shops so many times and have only ever noticed pizza shop.

This restaurant was a bit out of the CBD, but once inside the atmosphere was nice. The food was reasonably good, and the prices were quite good for the taste. chips were amazing - hadn't had them that way before.Food was very good - fresh well prepared sushi with some tasty grilled and fried dishes. Service and ambience are so-so. Inattentive waiters with several things forgotten. Nice people who fixed things quickly when told.

This was a most enjoyable visit. The staff are so attentive but not at all pushy. Every dish was served at the right time and we weren't besieged by all at once. Everything was tasty including the drinks. This is not like a sushi train and is a restaurant style. Very very nice.

Definitely will...

Great quality sushi and Japanese cuisine for an affordable price.

Sashimi was fresh and had a great variety. The Nigiri sushi were well made, just firm enough to not fall apart when dipping them into the soy sauce. The wasabi could take an upgrade from the small packet versions, but overall still tasted okay. The seafood udon is a must-try, the udon had a bit of chewiness to it, the broth tasted authentic and was full of flavours. It was quite unusual to find full-cooked prawns in the udon, as opposed to the more common tempura prawns, but nevertheless, the seafood worked quite well with the broth and still tasted amazing. The dragon roll (tempura and eel uramaki) is also worth a try.

However, for the pork ramen, the chasyu were rather tough, the broth was bland, and the soft-boiled eggs were cold. Also, I had a plate of uramaki sushi which was unfortunately over-seasoned with shichimi and ended up being too spicy and salty, which ruined the delicate flavours of the tuna. The sushi train was also quite long in length, and some of the warm dishes had turned cold after a few cycles.

Even then, the restaurant was very clean and well-lit, the staffs were fantastic and service was quite prompt. Will...

I’ve been going here for years, and it’s a great place usually. Great food & customer service. Today I took my mum here for lunch and had one of my worst customer service experiences I can remember. Serving staff forgot most of our order. We ordered 2 prawn udon noodles; we got one. I asked about the other and it had obviously been forgotten - I got mine after Mum had eaten. I asked twice about our prawn gyoza and was told they were coming. They never came. There was one chopstick at our table and I found one at another. Tables were dirty, our with dishes. Mum asked to have them removed & table wiped. They took dishes but didn’t wipe table. At end I told person I paid about my bad experience and that it was my mum’s birthday and I have been coming for years he said ā€˜ok’. So I asked who was in charge and told her. She said ā€˜we’re very busy sometimes’. They have been this busy MANY times, with none of this. I reiterated this was disappointing anyway and she said ā€˜we’re sorry you had a bad time, we will do better’. But didn’t seem to care either.

Anyway, whatever! But it was really disappointing. I don’t know if ownership has changed? Won’t...

Nice decor, staff were kind and courteous. The food was fresh tasting and presented on par with other sushi belt restaurants around town. Price was also fine, ranging from $3-6 with plenty of variety at each level. Service was reasonably fast when ordering through the menu. I had the aburi salmon (pictured) which was some of the best I've tried. It was fatty flavoured in a great way and not overcooked. The octopus balls and okinomiyaki (? seafood pancakes) were delicious too, served with actually dancing dried bonito on top. It danced for ages and had me captivated. Also my boyfriend's take on the place: "The flavours were on point. Taste wise, it was dope". The music was a nice change from the usual sushi train piano, slightly more up to date. Would be nice if there was a tiny bit more variety and fewer modern "love" songs (which we all know are whiny). Not the establishments fault, honestly. A single step to the left on that part will lead to 100% satisfaction for me, as I'm currently at 98%.

Our experience at Jiro has been hit and miss. Lunch on a weekend is always great with superbly fresh sushi and a much bigger range. In the evening, we prefer to order off the menu because the variety isn’t as diverse and we find many of the plates on rotation aren’t as fresh - ie the rice is no longer warm or is dehydrating
