I have been going to Marion Seafood for years and until today I have always been 100% satisfied with the quality of fish. Yesterday I went to get some KG whiting to cook for a friend visiting from France. At $79.95 a kilo I paid $42 for three double fillets. I went straight home and put my purchase in the fridge. This morning I took the fish out to prepare them but I was so disappointed to find they smelt very fishy, not the smell of the ocean as I usually experience from fish purchased from Marion Seafood. I had to wash the sliminess (and hopefully the smell) from the fillets and whilst it did help a little, it is still not ideal. Despite washing my hands several times, they still smell unpleasantly like fish. It is very obvious the whiting was not fresh when I purchased it. It makes me wonder if I need to find a new fish monger or ask to smell the fish before i finalise my purchase! I have frozen the fillets for now and am off to think of a different meal to...
Read morePaid $35 kg for tiger prawns yesterday and when we went to peel them they were black and disgusting. The bag also contained a number of heads with no bodies. Took them back today and although we received no apology they did offer to replace them with king prawns (no tiger prawns left). However, the amount they gave us came to less than what I had paid for. When I asked them to pop a couple of extra in to make up the price, the lady serving us rolled her eyes at me before adding 4 extra. The new total came to $6 more than what I had paid so she then proceeded to remove prawns until it came to the price I had paid. I have always gone to Marion Seafood but after 15 years (and new owners) they have lost both myself and my parents...
Read moreThere weren't many parking spaces, and it would probably be easier to park across the road at the Marion Hotel. When I walked in, I expected to smell that strong fishy smell but was pleasantly surprised not to smell anything. The fish was actually being filleted by a couple of super friendly blokes. Nice to know my fish is that fresh. One of the fellas washed his hands and greeted me straight away. I was there because I wanted to make a seafood Laska from scratch. I was surprised when the fella gave me some tips and suggested a different option to keep my spending down. The tip was bang on. Great service and...
