Went there today to have some brunch with my daughter and granddaughter and pick up a cat I was adopting. The owner?/manager spoke to us quite nicely when we arrived. He explained the rules of buying something off the main menu which we were happy to do so and explained the rules for the cat room. We didn't book because if we couldn't get in we were just going to come back at 2 when the rescue lady was there to grab the cat. We were outside but he did grab my daughter and told her she could move inside (my granddaughter and I were in the cat enclosure as I had already ordered food. The cat enclosure was full of very loud children who were quite rough with the cats. They were hitting the cats on the heads with the sticks with toys attached. The cats were balancing on the TV mounted from the roof trying to get away from them. When the cats went to hide under the bench seat they opened the seats and dragged the kitties out. I know a few got scratches which was understandable with the way they were treating the kitties. I did tell them a few times to be quieter and less rough with them but they didn't seem to hear me. They were there for a birthday party so the Cafe would have known because they would have had to book and they should have had extra staff to accommodate that. There were at least 10 at a time plus myself, my granddaughter, and one other lady. Who explained all the children had autism and that is why they were loud. Now I absolutely have nothing against anyone with autism because I have friends kids on the spectrum but it should be up to the parents, owner/staff to monitor the room. The man had said how many kids could be there at a time and for how long, but there was no monitoring going on. The staff were flat out and there were only 2 girls at the front service area and I would say a chef or 2 out the back. The man was oblivious to the noise and handling of the cats in the enclosure. Don't get me wrong the parents could have gone in (and they did a couple of times) to the enclosure to check on them but they looked at the man and he said they were ok. So as a parent, they probably thought it was ok as he had said so. Well no. I had to let the kids know to be a lot quieter and less rough handling the kittens. They did listen and toned it down for a while and left to have birthday lunch etc. It was a lot quieter and the kittens were less on edge. We then sat down for lunch and started to eat and my daughter who can only eat small meals ordered the kids chicken schnitzel, and cut into it and quite a lot of water came out of it with every cut she made. She hadn't eaten any of it because of that and the fact that it was barely hot. She went up to the girl and explained this and she was fine with it. My daughter paid extra and got the waffles which again she was fine with. Now the guy was walking past and said that's how they are cooked and they are award-winning schnitzels. When he delivered his order he came back again and rudely said they are all cooked like that but we will cook yours more so no juice comes out. My daughter explained that she was getting waffles and he got ruder and said oh ok I suppose someone out the back will have to eat it so it doesn't get thrown in the bin. He was so arrogant to my daughter that it was so frustrating. When my daughter received her waffles he walked past again and said I hope they are not too wet for you. It wasn't called for. As soon as she had eaten her waffles we got a bag and put my granddaughter's fries into them so that we could get out of there. We decided to leave and come back later to pick up the kitten because we couldn't stay with him constantly giving us a side eye and watching the poor kittens trying to...
Read moreWe went here with some friends on the weekend. I believe there are a few things the Cafe could improve on.
The tables were very unstable, only held up with a nail and very wobbly. The chairs were very uncomfortable and looked very worn.
The toilets were not clean and need some renovations, very sma confined area not suitable for wheelchair or disabled access.
Staff were friendly, however seemed inexperienced with taking our orders and forgot what we were drinking. The asian male waiter had trouble with getting the correct change to my friend and stumbled on taking orders in general.
The atmosphere was generally 'good' but the decor and functionality of the place seems run down, you'd expect a little more especially with it being situated in a well off area of Unley. But it seems there is not much love and money spent on propper and safe seating, tables etc.
The food was average - expensive for what is actually delivered to you. I had the waffles, egg and bacon dish - small egg, no flavour, some cheap tasting bacon, strange Greek yogurt sauce (I would have preferred a salad or something more interesting) as everything was very bland and dry.. My friend ordered the odd looking waffle 'thing' which looked like dry balls. She said it was dry and needed some kind of sauce. It looked pretty horrible (presentation wise it just looked like balls of.. poo), my other friend had the waffles and berries which actually looked and they said it tasted 'alright'. Overall the food wasn't as impressive and expensive for what it really is. My cappuccino was terrible, small and extremely strong, burnt. I was expecting a pretty piece of art work sprinkled on top of the chocolate, but that was thrown on there.
The cat area was TINY! it's quite sad to see the cats in such a small confined area.. we went in and couldn't sit anywhere. We had to sit on the floor - whilst an annoying child hovered around us, hitting and touching us, telling us what to do/what not to do. Pretty rude considering the mother was there and she did nothing to stop her boy from behaving so hyperactive. Dissapointed really. Not a good cat cafe experience.
Lack of foid options - no vegan or vegetarian option on menu either.
This place needs a good renovation before they can start charging so much for so little/lack of.
I'm sorry but we...
Read moreI’m sad to write this review because the man that served me seemed nice but I am honestly disgusted that this ham and cheese sandwich was served to me. I have seen a previous review now that also say the same thing - so please for the love of god, do not serve paying customers cheap white bread, processed cheese and I’m going to assume the cheapest ham available. I went in hoping to have a coffee only but was told I needed to order food in order to play with the cats, which I abided by, but to be served this for $9 is honestly disgusting. All I could smell was fake cheese, and I didn’t take a bite. I was going to say something but after sitting at the table and checking other reviews where another has complained about the same thing, it’s clear that previous feedback hasn’t changed anything plus also I was in a rush. I would really recommend serving a sandwich with proper bread and proper cheese because I’ve never been served something so sad in my life.
*edit Hello! Your reply is disappointing although not surprising as you have been sassy in previous reviews. Firstly, I’ll apologise for leaving two reviews, that wasn’t my intention and I’ll delete the one without the photo. I’m unsure how that happened. Regardless, I didn’t need to taste it because the smell was completely off putting and I don’t want to feed my son food that has a pungent smell to it, which is processed cheese. Proper cheese is not this colour. I’ve ordered many toasties for my toddler and never had one come out looking and smelling so off putting.
I also will clarify that yes I was looking at reviews having my coffee and was going to say something before I had to leave due to something that popped up and if someone doesn’t eat something they’ve paid good money for, that is really saying something. Trying to pick apart my review and being patronising might make you feel better, but doesn’t change the fact that this is the second time this particular sandwich has been complained...
