I recently visited Sorrelli Cafe Ristorante and had a mixed experience overall. Let's start with the positive aspects. The food served at Sorrelli is undoubtedly one of its highlights. The portions are generous, and the dishes are freshly cooked.
Notably, the schnitzels are massive, and even the kids' size is impressively substantial, staying true to their advertising claims.
The pizza, baked in a wood oven, captures the authentic essence of what a pizza should be. Additionally, the menu offers somewhat reasonable prices - although Sorrelli is not a cheap eatery, you get good value for your money.
Here is what didn't really work for us;
Upon arrival, I noticed an abundance of food delivery drivers from platforms like UberEats congregating at the entrance. They were noisy and glued to their phones, making it pretty inconvenient for us as we were trying to enter the restaurant. Staff didn't seem to care and we had to push through. It would have been better if the restaurant had a separate area for these drivers to prevent disruptions for dine-in patrons.
Another major issue was the inattentive staff. It was evident that they lacked proper training, as they seemed clueless about the menu and often forgot requests we made. When asked to close the balcony doors on an extremely cold night, the staff seemed indifferent and unresponsive. The lack of basic table service knowledge was apparent, with servers bumping into us while serving across the table, which led to uncomfortable situations.
One aspect that disappointed me was the ordering system, which resembled more of a pub-style approach rather than an authentic Italian dining experience. The restaurant claims to have an Italian influence, but this is not truly reflected in its decor or service style, which is a missed opportunity.
In conclusion, Sorrelli Cafe Ristorante offers decent food of good quality.
However, if you are seeking a genuine Italian charm and atmosphere, you might be disappointed with the lackluster staff and the absence of Italian design influence. But if you can overlook these shortcomings, the restaurant does serve satisfying dishes at...
Read moreTLDR version?- poor on most fronts. the venue itself seemed good, food average and expensive, and service was very slow for our group, which was one of several larger groups. The full version?- went for a 30th quiet dinner on a Saturday night. booked 3 tables and got there at 6. Ordered at about 6:30. Stood in a crazy long line that took about 15 minutes to get to the front. The line all but disappeared by 7:15 pm. Got served the meals finally at about 8 pm. 1.5 hours after we ordered. Many people who got there after us had already eaten and left by then. The group of 10 people next to us got there at the same time and they had their meals and left by 7:30 and their tables were empty before we had even gotten our meals. By then the mood had changed for all as everyone was hangry. The food was expensive, nothing great and luke warm. Some weird stuff was going on as the serving staff were running around like crazy and seemed to be under staffed, and they didnt have time to be 'polite'..they were curt and it was obvious that they couldn't keep up... yet you couldn't just take a drink from the counter/bar after paying for it- you had to wait for it to be placed on your table. The bar and drinks were literally right there...the bar staff were placing drinks on the counter for service staff to grab and place on the table. we were literally trying to get the drinks right there and then, and it would've saved the serving staff the whole trip. The 15 people we were with all said the same thing and wont be going back. its on our list of places...
Read moreI've given a star for the friendly staff. The food itself deserves no stars. The table placement deserves no stars. I booked ahead, for a table for two, for one of my older kids and I. The table was placed 3 metres from the cash registers, we sat between two lines of customers who were ordering their food and drinks. If I looked left or right, my view was a line of buttocks. Our table and chairs were consistently jostled by the moving lines. I ordered a $23 Veal Schnitzel and my lad ordered a $23 Alla Zucca - Risotto. The food arrived pretty quickly. My food was over-cooked. The fries were too brown and crunchy, too dry. The schnitzel was worse than awful. It was so over-cooked that the crumbing had become a dry husk, like an exoskeleton, each time I attempted to cut the schnitzel, the crumbing fell away, leaving dry, hard, chewy, grisle-filled veal. I tried moistening or even softening it with gravy, but the gravy was lumpy. The tomato and the leaves were fresh and crisp, not so for the cucumber. I left the meal mostly uneaten, I didn't ask for a doggy bag, as I wouldn't feed what was served to me, to my dog. My lad described his Alla Zucca -Risotto as being like something from a food court which had been left out all day, and as something he'd expect to be served in a box, rather than on a plate in a restaurant. I would love for Gordon Ramsay to visit and give a review, I don't think it would be as polite as mine. I don't know if they have an actual chef, but the people who work in that kitchen should not be allowed to send food...
