One of the cutest things about Love House is that it occupies half of the local Surf Lifesaving Club, so the walls are covered in SLC paraphernalia but they've added a touch of modern romance with pink fluoro lights. The combo is kooky but it works! And of course the view over the beach is the best in town.
The separate vegan menu is clearly more than an afterthought. The menu is designed for sharing but I was in Anglesea by myself for the weekend. The staff recommended 2 small plates per person so I settled on the vegan fried chicken with Korean chilli and the chargrilled eggplant salad.
I literally have no idea what the "chicken" was made from! It had a delicious crispy yet slightly chewy coating and the centre was super soft and almost...slippery? That sounds gross but it wasn't, just unexpected. Some sort of root vegetable or even super soft mochi is my best guess. It was nice, and quite spicy, but if you're after something with a bit of protein and texture, maybe order the tofu.
The eggplant was very tender and had a very smoky flavour that contrasted nicely with the fresh herbs, sprouts, and tangy dressing. In fact, the dressing was so tart, my lips were tingling, so I'd order it with rice next time.
The two dishes were more than I could finish, despite trying my best, but they were happy to give me a container to take home the leftovers. Looking forward to going back and trying more options, which someone to share...
Read moreWow. What a fantastic restaurant and dining experience! It's not perfect, but my god was it ever so close.
The view is unbeatable, you won't find anything like it dining in Anglesea.
We tried quite a range of food, I would recommend, as I do any restaurant that offers it, the "Feed Me" menu option.
We had the crispy cauliflower, pork pancakes, crispy fish bao, Korean fried chicken and Asian veg dumplings as mains, and edamame, mixed pickle, fries and roti as a side. The serving size is unbeatable!
I also have to commend the service as a whole, the waiter was able to explain each dish as it was served which is unexpected in a restaurant at this price point.
My only critiques are: If you arrive 10-15 minutes early and your table isn't ready, they were too busy to serve you a drink. This is an easy way to get patrons to spend an extra $30 before they've looked at a menu. As additional food was brought out, empty plates weren't always cleared. The music could have been a touch higher and the seating arrangement, although perfectly fine, wasn't set up to take in the magnificent view.
As you can see, hardly a reason to not dine here. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place if you're in town. You won't find such a dining experience in many...
Read moreI dined at Love House Anglesea tonight as a single diner. I am on a little retreat to recharge after finishing a full year of chemo for bone marrow cancer and this was my first time dining out for ages and my first time at Love House. I have coeliac disease and require strict Gluten Free. I called ahead and was advised that Love House have a separate fryer for Gluten Free foods to be prepared appropriately for Coeliacs... Great news for me! From the minute I entered this welcoming, bright, fun, bright, comfortable space I was happy. With a view over the ocean to die for and staff that were friendly, kind and knowledgeable it was a lovely spot to be. Issy who was only on her 2nd shift was helpful, warm and accommodating and recommendations were spot on! She checked with the kitchen when I had a question regarding an item being suitable for me as a coeliac. Nothing was too much trouble, she was fabulous and I hope she enjoys it and they look after her! Dining alone can be uncomfortable but I felt relaxed and the food was divine. I ordered way too much but couldn't stop eating it as it was so delicious. Highly recommend this as a great spot to have a few drinks and delicious food while taking in the view. Thanks for a memorable meal. Hope to...
