Such a horrid experience that could have been so easily avoided. I have been coming to Bangalow for 20+ years and have enjoyed visiting the bakery at the top of the hill regularly on these occasions. I owned restaurants at the time and developed and friendly relationship with the original owners/management. After the bakery sold and became Bangalow bread Co the prices have gone up and the service has gone down. The offerings are fairly generic, pastry, pies etc. A good indication of there pricing; Pies are $9.00 and cookies are $9.00 for 1 (you can get a 6 pack of dough to cook at home for $48.00!) At least you save $1 to cook your own. On the day I was last there I accidentally left my backpack behind with some prospecting gear (a slpade knife for digging holes and an electric pinpointer) some beats ear buds and a Samsung Tablet. My partner and I were in a rush to see a property as we are looking to buy in the area and took off leaving the backpack under the bench we were sitting at. Around an hour later and miles away I tried to call the shop to ask them about the bag but the line was engaged. I checked my "where is" app to find my bag and saw that it was still in the shop. I got in the car and continued trying to call. I arrived back at Bangalow and politely asked the staff, whom I would have expected would have been expecting someone looking for their lost bag, if they had seen a black backpack I had left behind. Both young girls said that they had no knowledge of any bag being found. I then got the attention of an guy who looked to be a manager or supervisor who also told me that nothing had been handed in. I then went back to my tracker and checked the location. I was literally standing on top of the missing bag. I went back to the same guy and asked again showing him the tracker and the location of my device. He then went out the back and came back after 4-5 mins to tell me that they did have my bag, but they wouldn't give it to me as the boss had called the police. I was doubfounded to say the least. After waiting for said police for 10 mins and knowing where the station was I told the staff I would got to the station and sort it out. Bangalow Police Staion was closed, so I called the police and got through to Byron Bay. This was a good 20 mins since being told the police had been called. The officer I talked to was not impressed and told me he had only just received a call from the Bread Co and he had told them to give my bag straight back to me. I thanked the officer and returned to collect my bag. The guy who I had asked twice for the bag handed it over the counter and I expressed that I was not impressed with how this was handled and that it looked very dodgy. He then tried to put it back on me for having a fossicking took that looked dangerous that had been pulled out of the bag because "there was a handle showing". I have no doubt that I would have never got my bag back if I had no tracker to prove where it was. My partner and I are soooooo disappointed. This has ruined Bangalow for us and we will just spend our time and $$ elsewhere in the future.

Update. Three years after my first review of this joint & it's still going strong. Great for a quick snack or lunch with the best coffee. Great selection of pastries, sambos etc. Try the spinach & cheese roll. Congratulations on your new business! The new bakery is a vast improvement on tired old Choux Choux with a slick fitout featuring hardwood tables and a windowed ā€˜aquarium’ room where you can watch the baker at work. Coffee is competitive in Bangalow and their Old Quarter SE Asian blend is excellent. This is a quick counter style bakery so dont expect table service or Butcher Baker quality (with the big price tag). The only negative is the lack of hand sanitiser. I couldnt stop my daughter playing with the excellent toy section but worried about Covid. All the touching of plates, cash, tpys and tables made me want a quick sanitise before & after eating. I’ll be a regular here for sure.

To start with, Bangalow is a very nice small town, well worth a visit on it's own but, if you do not stop and participate by having one of the Best Pies you will ever taste, it won't be my fault, please go to the Bangalow Bread Shop, the variety of different pies is fantastic, I had a Beef, Cheese and Macaroni, the pastry just beautiful and pie was totally full, no air space like most pies that you pay $6-00 for and to add to this, they are all made on the premises, you can actually watch these and other pastries being made through the glass window inside. The average price is $7-20 but well worth it. There is seating inside and outside seating on the footpath, so you can sit back and enjoy your coffee and pie or cake. They close at 3pm, I will be going back when next in Bangalow. Colin

Absolutely apauling customer service!!!! Got ejected from the shop by young female staff at closing time before we'd even finished our meals and drinks!!

Local to the area for 3 decades.....took my partner and mother in-law for a snack and coffee yesterday...... ordered food and drinks about 20 mins before closing time.....served to us 15 mins before closing time

At closing time (3 pm) we were promptly told by one of the young female staff that they were closing..... We understood.....but still finishing off our drinks.....about 2 minutes later we were reminded again to leave.....

There were other customers still at the counter waiting for their orders....we were not overstepping our welcome to the premises....

We felt incredibly pressured to get up and leave.....I said to one of the girls that we still have finished our drinks as we got up to leave .....

We left the shop....other customers still at the counter..... I looked back and noticed the two young female staff smirking at us through the window.....so juvenile...very unprofessional.

I won't ever go back again.....rather give my money to a business which appreciates the customers.

PS..... To the owner..... If you pay peanuts....you get monkeys..... Those staff are not looking after your best interests.....or the customers.

Gave you 1 star because the review platform wouldn't let me...

The food here is fabulous, but I’m sorry it alone cannot make up for the rude and unhygienic service I recently received. I was next in line at the counter but the guy behind the counter completely ignored me and asked the guy standing behind me what he wanted instead! When I stepped up to say I was next there was no apology from the guy behind the counter, he just gave me an attitude laden excuse whilst acting like he didn’t really care anyway. The guy in the line behind me could’ve also said something, but didn’t. Then to make matters worse, the same guy serving me proceeded to touch the loaf of bread I ordered all over with his bare hands. He made no effort whatsoever to handle it hygienically or even minimally, switching the loaf from hand to hand as he casually took it to the slicer. He also used his bare hands to take it from the slicer catch tray to re-position it on the top before bagging. No he did not wash his hands before serving me, so god knows where his hands had been before handing the loaf I ordered šŸ˜‘ I wanted to say something but already felt like I was getting attitude after stepping up to say I was next. At least he used tongs to get the croissant I also ordered šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø Though the damage has been done and I won’t be back to be served...
