Bistro 1834 — Restaurant in Berrima

1st time experience was not impressed waiting 1hr 30min before we received our lunch . We asked multiple times how long it would be and was told it will 10-15mins . The manager Karen brought our lunch out was very rude saying that we were busy and had a big group outside and did not apologise of offer any compensation like a drink or say sorry for the long wait. After I mentioned to Karen that I was not happy about waiting 11/2 hrs before eating lunch and my wife is diabetic so waiting along time is not good for her . Then we saw her in front of us making comments to her locals have you eaten yet I will organise something for you straight away . Trying to rub in because I brought to her attention that we were not happy . We also had a friend on our table that was on same table order was given his meal in 1hr and then sat with us for 30 min while we finally got to eat . Obviously we are not locals and she didn’t really care for us to be happy, this manager has no people skills in trying to make people feel welcome here so after this I do not recommend 1834 Bistro. Your restaurant has such a warm, friendly and accommodating "personality" because all your staff are warm, friendly and accommodating! Indeed it is the people who make the establishment. This is our 2nd time in just one week and we came back because, last weekend, we enjoyed the food, the ambience and, most especially, the way your staff seemed to be happy to serve us. Special mention goes to KAREN who is so attentive and who makes one feel so welcome. She is so full of energy, is patient and just all-around jolly! Another staff worth mentioning is the younger McKenzie who is also very friendly, warm and helpful. Even the guy who served us at the bar exuded warmth as well and seemed just genuinely happy to serve. I had a meal here by myself a few weeks back and was so impressed by one of your staff members, her name was Keran her bubbly attitude filled the pub with smiles.

I went to order a meal and she asked if I needed two plates (which I LOVE as most of the time I share a meal and feel bad for sharing) When I said I was eating alone and it was just for me she quickly jumped in and said “oh well if I wasn't working i’d come and sit with you” This joke made me feel so welcomed and like I had a friend.
