Overall 4 stars mainly because it is very dog-friendly and has outdoor tables with proper shade, the drinks were super cold which was welcome on a hot day, the staff are very friendly and it is in the middle of town. The food is also not too bad. I put 3 stars for rooms but I didn't actually stay at the Surveyor General Inn. Our family had lunch at the bistrot yesterday (Australia Day). There was a parade in town and the place was heaving. The staff were super friendly even thought it was an extremely hot day and they had to deal with a slow EFTPOS machine and hundreds of people. The wait time for our food was one hour but we were told this at the time we ordered so that was fine. I reserved a table outside at one of the picnic type tables, and luckily it was fully covered as the Inn has a very large verandah. There was a full dog water bowl somewhere along the row of outside tables. One has to order food in a separate line from where drinks are ordered from. There was lots of ice available at the bar. There was also free self-help water available. The food queue seemed to sort itself out but the bar was a bit chaotic. Perhaps some sort of divider like in a bank so people know to queue there. Or neon sticky tape with crosses and arrows so people know where to queue. The food was typical pub food. If you don't expect too much you won't be disappointed. It wasn't gastro pub level but it also wasn't inedible. I was hungry and the chips were crispy (everything comes with chips!). The fish and chips are pretty good. The batter was crispy. The chicken schnitzel was a bit orange but not too dry. The steak sandwich was pretty good too. I can't complain about anything in particular, but it also wasn't next level. The bread was well fried, the steak wasn't too chewy. One has to pay for sauces and we couldn't find any ketchup. It was so busy we just ate whatever came. They forgot to bring out the sticky date pudding. We asked and they said they took it out already. Maybe someone got a free sticky date pudding. The staff replaced it and it came out very quickly. The vanilla ice-cream was good. The sticky date pudding was microwaved and was extremely hot. I probably wouldn't order it again as it was overly sweet. I would return as Berrima is a nice town to spend a few hours in and the people were really friendly...
Read moreLast Friday we took our 84 year old grandfather out for lunch. After waiting 45 minutes for a bowl of chips and garlic bread, our 84 year old family member accidentally medically vaped outside in a non smoking area. We were then very rudely confronted by a staff member, who seemed to possibly be a manager, who yelled loudly for all outside customers to hear.
We had already waited 45 minutes for these small and easy dishes , with no communication of waiting times. Our 84 year old family member, was humiliated and got up and left the premises, and we waited a total of one hour to get our food take away, so we wouldnât leave the elderly person in our car.
We never complained once about the waiting times and a pre- warning of waiting times would be better than just sitting there
The staff member was instigated by his friends at a table inside, completely unaffected by anything outside.
Obviously on a power trip, this staff member could have had a discrete conversation, instead came out violently yelling and bullying an elderly person.
We will not be returning

There is still no excuse for disrespecting the elderly and...
Read moreThere is a lot to say about this place. Firstly there are significant historical reasons to go see this pub. Walking through pub and reading the descriptions of old paintings and photographs made me feel like i was really stepping back to the eighteen hundreds, pictures and blurb of the capture of Ned kelly, a great painting of Major Thomas Mitchell who was the 'Surveyor General' in NSW from 1828 till 1855. Then there are some wall cabinets with some great authentic artifacts which make you respect the pioneering spirit of the people of that time. FACILITIES. The pub has accommodation, great food, pool table, excellent outdoor shaded areas and of course you can order a drink at the bar of pretty much anything. FOOD I had the Duck Confit with poached pears, potatoes and radicchio followed with a Rhubarb and Apple Crumble with Walnuts and Ice cream. The duck was very tender bursting with flavor, add the flavor of pears and wow! what a dish. This is a great place for the family or couple wanting to have their own intimate space to chat and dine. STAFF. Staff are ALL friendly and sincere, offering quick service and attention...
