Now the reason why I’m writing this is because I had a terrible experience today when I went to have my usual weekend’s brunch with my mum.
First of all I do love banjo’s food chefs definitely get 5 stars in food quality, freshness and right flavour, you guys are real rockstars.
Now I went today around 10:26 to have my usual brunch, beautiful spinach rolls, chicken parmi pie and some sweets. As soon as we arrived to the store we got terribly welcomed by a lady who seems to be the manager as she had a different colour name tag (kinda yellow), she was moving the outdoor chairs away from the rain and almost hit my mother with one of the chairs without even saying sorry (it’s all good we let it pass).
Then when ordering she rushed the orders even if there was no other customer queuing to order and she packed the wrong order, luckily I asked her to confirm what was she placing inside the bag before we would drive home and find out 30 minutes later our meals were incorrectly packed. She had no patience to explain and she crushed the bag quite hard just because we wanted extra sweets and she looked quite “upset”. Dear I don’t know your name but I really hope you learn to work with customers, I know it isn’t easy but come on for things like this I don’t want to come back after 3 years of loyalty. I couldn’t see your name but I’m sure your friendly colleague can help us to address the situation as she kindly assisted us with our order as soon as she saw your rude reaction.

Read moreThis franchise originated in Tasmania ...I previously had an apartment there and visited I visited often so am well aware of the history. There is now two Banjos bakeries in Brisbane. The other over Wynnum way. I visit only to buy their Tasmanian curried scallop pies as it is somewhat on my way home and unique! Banjo's shares its site with a fuel station for trucks, commercial vehicles and general public. Drive through if you want but good to go inside to see their range first up.
They have a good variety of bakery goods especially suited for the guys who travel through and work around the area.
There scallop pies are rich and lovely but never hot enough. I've bought them three times and always lukewarm I understand they would have to keep them like this or they would get too dried out. I took mine home he did in the oven added some green veggies and it was substantial enough for an evening meal.
There's a great range of other goods there as well as their pies they have pastries breads etc. All of a good standard and priced on the topside.
My curried scallop pie was $9. 50. There are 6 scallops per pie. The curry is just a good balance.
The bakery also feature some other unique pies like a chicken parmigiana or a beef burger in the side of pie!!! Good on them for doing...
Read moreBanjos is well known to anyone who has visited or lived in Tasmania since the mid 80s. Very similar to our Brumbys I thought when I first encountered one while living down there in the 90s, but with seating and a cosy cafe atmosphere inside (in Tassie people just want to get out of the chill, the wind and the rain!)
This store is tucked in such a hidden spot in Darra (a service road off the highway) it would be easy to miss if you're not a tradie or business person who works in the area, but this little bit of Tassie magic is well worth detouring for.
It IS more cafe prices than bakery prices, quite expensive, but the quality is good as the items are baked fresh each day. Yes, try the famous Tasmanian scallop pie. In Hobart you go down to little food trucks at the water's edge to get even better ones, but this is a good introduction to a food item that was unavailable on 'the mainland' for a long time.
The counter service is very fast too! Worth a visit, it just has things you don't...
