I had to give this place a go cause of all the good reviews and thought I might as well try their pie and sausage roll because people seemed to like it.
The beef and guiness pie and pork and fennel sausage roll were mid. If you enjoy a good pie and sausage roll definitely don't come to this place. At most I would give them both a 3 out of 5. Although the pastry was good and flaky, the pie flavour was not that great and it fell apart almost instantly. Super messy. The sausage roll pastry was way too puffy and the flavour was also not that great. They also weren't fresh and had to be heated from cold.
Now the reason why this place is still 5 stars for me is because I also got an almond pretzel, blueberry Danish and cinnamon scroll. My lord they were good. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. I'm not really a sweet tooth either but I could've easily eaten them all in one sitting after I shared a pie and sausage roll. Soft and flaky pastry with the perfect level of sweetness to have you wanting more.
Got a loaf of Sourdough as well which was good but nothing to write home about.
Bottom line is come here for...
Read moreI popped in yesterday for a light lunch with my Wife and while the staff were friendly and the coffee was well made the food was well below par. My wife ordered an Almond Croissant and it was stale. I'm assuming by the way it turned to crumbs when cut that it was a least a day or two old. It was left uneaten on our table. I had a Gourmet beef pie. Absolutely nothing gourmet about a 6 dollar something microwaved pie that was cool and soggy on the outside and molten hot on the inside. I could visibly see where the top had been cut off so they could stir the contents after the pie burnt me. The sugary tomato relish was not to my liking either and I recommend other's not to buy it. I would have given Banneton's 2 star's but after considering I've still got a blister on the roof of my mouth 24 hours later I've decided they've earn't only 1 star. I have eaten here before (4 months ago) and the savoury pastries I order then were dry as well. I won't be be giving them...
Read moreGreat spot for delicious, high-quality baked goods. So many great options that it was hard to choose! My pork and fennel sausage roll was excellent, as was my chocolate croissant. Almond milk mocha latte also good. Fast and friendly service. Plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Loses a star because they impose a surcharge on card transactions. Almost everyone today pays with card, so they should just do what all the other cafes are doing these days and set a proper, honest and transparent menu price that includes the assumed card payment processing costs and do away with all the silly back-end surcharges, similar to what every business already does with GST. They could always choose instead to offer a discount to the few customers who still...
