This place has been recommended to me for like a year. I finally went there today for lunch and WOW!!

Delicious.

The service was quick. The staff were nice. There was a line (always a good sign I think) but I waited barely a minute to be served AND get my pork roll.

It's literally 8pm at night and I want to google if it's open to get food.

I'm not an Uber Eats girl. I can't justify spending the money on delivery, and I live within like 500 metres from 30 different eateries.....but....if this place had Uber Eats i wouldn't be writing this, I'd literally be ordering.

Now - I know what your thinking......if a review is ever 'too good' I'm suss. Like they totally got their staff to write it.

But to prove to you I am who I say I am, and not staff/a robot/my dad owns the place

I don't speak Viet. I wish I could but alas, I don't. I would've taken a better photo of my food I'll include something bad about the place - they have no EFT. You need to bring cash (who ever has cash tho?) OR go to the chemist around the corner and pay a $7,425 fee to withdraw 20 measly dollars.

Anyway, I digress.

Go here. You won't regret it. And order 1 of EVERYTHING on the...

Do you know which sandwich has been voted #1 in the world? It is the Vietnamese Bahn Mi! They come in many different varieties, but the traditional one consists of a crispy and flaky French baguette that is sliced open and stuffed with a variety of meats, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, pate, butter, and jalapeño. They are considered street food in Vietnam, but this appears to be what the folks are after at the Darra Takeaway! Although there are several shops offering similar sandwiches, the line is much longer here. I can't speak to how the other restaurants are, but maybe you can try them yourself to see if there is a difference. Darra Takeaway also has other sandwiches, chips, and fried chicken on their menu. The chicken wings are juicy and crispy, and reasonibly priced. There are no tables, but you will find customers enjoying their purchases wherever they can find seats in front of the shop or along the sidewalk. If you have a taste for a quick takeaway Vietnamese snack and you're in or near Darra, drop in and see if your taste buds transport you to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City! The shop does not take EFPOS, so...

Roast Pork Banh Mi ($6) 9.5/10 Pork Meatball Banh Mi ($6) 9.5/10

Overall: 9.5/10

Review: Had been recommend to try Darra takeaway from a few avid Banh Mi lovers so thought I would make the journey to give them a go. I went with the roast pork and salad roll which was only $6. The baguette was fresh and soft with a crispy exterior and filled with a good amount of pork and fresh veggies. I thought this was one of the best pork belly rolls I’ve tried as it had a good amount of meat with hardly any fat and the perfect crispy crackling. There was also a good amount of coriander (which I love), pate and mayonnaise. I didn’t try the meatballs but was told they were a decent size with good flavour. However, there could have been some cucumber/ other veggies to go with the carrot. For the price point, this is a fantastic Banh Mi spot and I would definitely travel to get the roast pork. To note, they only accept cash. Check out...

Out of all the banh mi places I've tried for a good pork roll this one is by far the best! I didn't expect to see pork mince balls in it so was unsure at first if it would be good but thoroughly enjoyed it from the first bite to the last. The pork roll came out warm, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the filling was tender, juicy and full of flavour unlike some places I've been to where it's been pretty dry. I will say though this area has a massive crow problem though so be prepared to be stalked by crows wanting a piece of your banh mi. Probably safer to eat in a group than being the only one out there eating as they will definitely take a dive and try to eat it out of your hand while you are eating it. So good the crows know it haha. Will definitely be back!!!
