I am writing this review with a real sense of disappointment and frustration. This restaurant was not just a place to eat for our family; it was an institution. We have been dining here since my husband was at university, and now we’ve continued the tradition with our own sons who are at uni. For decades, this was our absolute favourite spot — a place we visited at least once a week, if not more.
To see how far the standards have fallen is heartbreaking. What was once a weekly treat has now become our worst dining experience in years.
We had lunch here today . The food was appalling. We ordered salted fish fried rice and could not find a single piece of salted fish. It was nothing more than bland egg tossed in rice, looking like a child’s first failed attempt at cooking. The stir-fried flat rice noodles were burnt, leaving a bitter, acrid taste that ruined the dish. The red bean coconut drink tasted off and extremely watered down. Everything we ordered was poorly executed, substandard, and frankly inedible.
The service was no better. We were the only table in the restaurant, yet when we needed basic cutlery like spoons and knives, there was no staff in sight. We actually had to get up and take them from another table ourselves. For the high prices charged here, this level of service is insulting.
Paying premium prices for terrible food and non-existent service feels like being scammed. This restaurant is now just a shadow of what it used to be. After years of loyalty and countless cherished memories, we are leaving not just disappointed, but annoyed and frustrated that it has fallen so far.
Save your money and your time — we will not...
Read moreThis is possibly the worst Asian food I have ever had in Brisbane! We had salt and pepper quail and salt and pepper anchovies. Both these dishes were quite tasty. We had a special fried rice which was very ordinary and seemed old and had no flavor whatsoever. We had a duck combination which had one prawn in it and one piece of squid and the duck was absoulotley tasteless and tasted old also. We had a cai lang in oyster sauce .The cai lang was nice but the sauce was obviously straight out of a bottle . The last dish was a basil chicken which as you can guess by now was disgusting also. I'm not sure how this place gets 4.4 stars out of 5 stars from 320 reviews but something is not quite right. Normally when you go to a good Asian restaurant you see alot of Asian people eating there also and there were none here that night. The service was quite good and fast and the staff were friendly but there were only about 20 people here. I was really looking forward to trying this place but what a disappointing dinner we had. I would never...
Read moreThe host family at this restaurant are as clever with food ingredients as they are with hospitality. They do not need to modernise, to present a clean and tidy environment, prompt and friendly service, food of a quality and quantity to keep customers returning again and again, at prices which are so encouraging. A search of the menu will reveal a wide choice of all the favourites including an interesting range of drinks. My wife and I each had a fruit drink, an entree and a meal plus jasmine rice for two. At $70 we were impressed, satisfied and carried two containers home. We have been here before, starting many years ago and they are still going strong - no wonder! The staff are friendly and helpful which is a statement on its own - they interact like family members. Looking forward to...
