Dovetail is Norman Park's best kept little secret. The only downside is that they are closed on Mondays - Ok I'm a bit greedy, but it just shows how great the coffee is! Their opening hours are Tues - Sun 7am - 1pm. If you enjoy drinking seriously impressive coffee, served by friendly, relaxed staff - in a very quiet, chilled out location - you have to try it out. They do serve food, offering a small menu - but I do like the coffee more! . The concept is brilliant, almost a hole in the wall - in this case a door, It's just like a "pop up shop" outdoors' they open the door, lock in wooden planks for tables. perch them between the store front posts, add a few more tables and chairs on the pavement area, and they are in business. So you are enjoying your coffee "alfresco" in a lovely urban setting. Dovetail share their street corner with a local boutique architect - Smith Architects. Which simply adds to the great, local community vibe. But it's not only loyal locals supporting Dovetail, many of their morning customers are heading to work in the CBD, as it's an easy left hand turn off Wynnum Rd, straight down Overend St. It's located half way down, on the corner of Dickens and Overend St, parking is brilliant, so easy, with absolutely no annoying parking hassles, sorry Bulimba & Hawthorne. As a new resident of this great little suburb, I was thrilled to discover this cute local gem on one of my morning walks - and the bonus is the consistently great coffee each and every time. Property prices will absolutely go up here, once the word grows! Norman Park truly benefits from local small businesses like Dovetail, so show your community pride and support - but just make room for me!

P.S . If you can't find a seat @ Dovetail, don't fret, grab a takeaway coffee and head down to Wilson Park. It's one street over from Dovetail, on the corner of Brentnall St and Norman Ave, the flowering Jacaranda's...

For mine, one of the best suburban cafes in Brisbane.

Super friendly, knowledgeable and non-pretentious staff who clearly love what they do. Adam and all the staff are so generous with their time in explaining the flavours of the different beans, roasts and blends, which I appreciate as a non-coffee-cultist and relative novice. Under their gentle direction, I'm branching away from my standard flat white into a whole world of single origin purple haze ristretto something something. I don't pretend to understand, but I do know it's always delicious.

I could (and do) spend a lot of time sitting and enjoying the lovely little breeze that flows around the tables. I love the blankets to ward off the cool mornings - a very nice touch. The fitout of the space is compact and clever and makes the most of what is, essentially, a hole in the wall. I also love how relaxed the place feels.

I don't really have a sweet tooth, but even I find the salted caramel brownies completely addictive. I'm yet to try the breakfast offerings but they smell amazing, particularly the baked eggs.

The only drawback is that it can be a bit of a mission to get to Dovetail on public transport - though buses run along each end of Overend St, and Norman Park station is about 10 minutes walk away, so it's...

My youngest daughter, our dog and I had a lovely lunch at Dovetail on Overend today.

Not a massive menu but still the gf options were available, on request. My daughter had a regular toasty and I being the Coeliac had the gluten free option. So yummy and cooked to perfection.

I had an Earl Grey tea and my daughter had a latte.

Quaint location and alfresco dining out front of a suburban street cafe atmosphere.

A little expensive for amount served but being a Coeliac it is paramount to have your health issues taken care of so the cost isn't a massive issue for me. They don't charge extra for gluten free options. Cross contamination isn't an issue here as they use a separate area for gluten free preparation and are Coeliac aware.

Service was friendly and helpful.

Dogs are allowed and there is a bowl of fresh water available for your pooch.

There is another separate location for the business and will try them next time too at Red Hill.

I also purchased as a takeaway, 2 of their gluten free donuts but they were for my daughter and her partner to consume. The iced donuts looked very yummy so assume they were enjoyed.

Will be back to try something different off the menu...

So after wanting to visit one of the Dovetail locations for over 12 months, I finally got the chance Tuesday 07/11/23. Dovetail on Overend is a small hole in the wall kind of store with outside seating only. Thankfully the rain held off whilst we were there and other than it being garbage day so noisy trucks (out of their control) breaking the tranquility it was a nice location. They are definitely popular based on the amounts of customers there. I ordered the Gluten Free Reuben sandwich as I have Coeliac Disease and had also flagged my other allergies prior to attending. Unfortunately spice wise this was way too hot for me so I only managed 1/4 of the sandwich. Would try something different in future. My non-Coeliac 19yr old son was also present and he ordered the Adobo bowl which he loved. We both had a coffee that was lovely and a Yamington donut to finish off, which was AMAZING! I also bought one of each of the donuts they had (pity no Bespoke Ube there) but did get the Raspberry and Passionfruit, Apple Crumble, Lemon and Blueberry and a Yamington to bring home. Definitely recommend and will go there again.
