Bennetts Road Seafood — Restaurant in Brisbane City

I have heard the only place near East Brisbane to buy Fish and Chips is Bennetts Road Seafood. Wanting to support local businesses I gave this place a try. Never again. I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order of 2 pieces of fish and chips for 2 people. I added two potato scallops after I had paid for the F & C. The price charged was much more than the menu price. My order was wrapped in a large single sheet of paper. The paper had torn before I got to my car. The quality of the fish was not good, it was all crumb and very little fish. We didn't eat more than a couple of mouthsful. The chips were limp and needed another cook. The potato scallops were amazing....I wondered how anyone could have cut the potato so thinly. The batter was thick. These were the worst potato scallops. The price of our meal was around $26. I wonder about the people who raved about this place. They must be used to eating very poor...

Ordered online on a Thursday night, arrived a little earlier than the pickup time and the owner was happy to get it to me as quick as possible. The shop seemed fairly quiet, only two other people were there while I was. $6.80 seemed a lot for ‘minimum chips’ but the serving size was reasonable considering inflation lately… It’s slightly cheaper to order at the store, but for my order it worked out only about 50c extra to order online so it was worth it for the convenience. The chips themselves were hot, though more soft than crispy, and way too much salt for my taste so would definitely ask for light salt next time. The seafood packs seem good value so might be worth a try...

Looks can be deceiving! This shop has been in the area for about as long as I can remember. The quality of the food has always been higher than similar local outfits, and the prices are as low as they can possible be. If you're looking for a traditional fish / chicken shop feed, please look no further than this little old pink house. I enjoy coming here, as the owners are very friendly and will recognise regulars for their patronage. Personally I enjoy the Vege burger, which is something that is relatively uncommon to most fish...
