I saw the face of God in a burger… and it was wearing bacon. I Listen up, fellow food adventurers. I’ve eaten burgers from all over — from sketchy servo cafés at 2 a.m. to places where the waiter calls you “darling” and then charges $29 for lettuce. But nothing — and I mean nothing — prepared me for the spiritual awakening that is Griddle & Crisp in Clayfield. I took one bite of their Beef ’N’ Bacon burger and immediately heard a choir of angels harmonizing over sizzling patties. My taste buds filed for permanent residency on Cloud Nine. The bun was so soft it felt like it had been hugged by a marshmallow and blessed by Gordon Ramsay himself. Then came the Nashville hot wings. Good grief. I think I ascended. My mouth was on fire, my eyes were watering, and I loved every painful second. I briefly considered calling the fire brigade but decided instead to order another round. Because that’s the kind of life-changing decision you make at Griddle & Crisp. The staff? Legends. They smile like they just won the lotto and hand you fries like they’re giving out gold. One of them even checked if we were “still surviving the spice” — yes, mate, barely, but happily. If aliens ever visit Earth, please take them to this place so they’ll understand why humanity is worth saving. Right off the bat I’ll just say that you need to go here. Trust me when I tell you the food here is exactly what you want out of a burger joint.

I ordered their chicken tender box with fries, bread and coleslaw with a side sauce and the chicken was very juicy and the breadcrumbs batter mix was very well seasoned and had a lovely crunch to it. The fries were great and the sauce was very tasty ( I wish the sauce was either room temp or warm rather than cold but that’s personally preference). I also ordered a double cheeseburger and for a smash burger this thing was massive! Super juicy and one of the best burger I’ve had since being in Australia. I ordered caramelised onion as an addition to my burger and they were really tasty.

My only criticism with the caramelised onions was that with the juices of the burger meat as well it left a puddle of grease at the bottom of the burger box making the bottom burger bun a bit soggy. But nonetheless it didn’t take away from the amazing taste.

I hope they open up in a bigger venue in the future because it is a small venue and with the amount of clients they get ( especially on the weekend ) it could help them speed up the waiting time if they had a bigger kitchen and more staff. If this was in the city I dare to say it would be the best burger restaurant in all of Brisbane. This place is a must visit if you like burgers and chicken. 9.5/10 I...
