We will never come back to Hundred Acre bar. We have been regulars for two years and it has been slowly declining in service and quality. Our last experience for my 50th celebrations was the last straw. The main issue is the bar staff and in particular the Manager (I think he is the Manager - light coloured beard). Every time he serves the service is below par but on our last occasion was disgraceful. I went to the bar with my friend to order more cocktails (big cocktail drinker here) and as we had dirty plates and glasses at our table outside (there were 10 of us) I asked if he could arrange someone to come and clear the table. I was told 'the service staff will get to it when they get to it'. I mean seriously? You also now have to wait for your cocktail to be made (which can be 10/15 mins if they are busy) as they won't bring them to the table anymore. I also ordered a beer for my Dad and he pointed to the fridges next to the bar and said to grab it myself. Really? I had to ask for a fresh glass and when I went to get water (which of course you have to get yourself) there were no jugs or glasses. The look I got from him when I asked for these! You now are pushed to order your food from the QR code which is difficult as you can't customise an order and they now will not bring food out in intervals i.e. if you wanted to start with entrees you have to order these first and then after a while order your mains. If you order it all together it will come out at the same time. Really bad service from the kitchen. The menu has now changed and the seating but not for the better. There still remains no air-con but just huge industrial fans that circulate the heat. The most disappointing thing is that the location and atmosphere of the bar and club is beautiful. It has been completely let down now with terrible service (with the bar staff the worst), and mediocre food. For an establishment that is based in a lovely area with expensive food and drinks you should be getting the level of service to match. You are treated like you are at a fast food restaurant. They also don't stick to the hours on the website and we have been caught with the kitchen and bar closing early. This really put a downer on what was a special...
Read moreThe dining experience was much more casual than our last visit. Table service has been replaced by scanning qr codes which is disappointingly impersonal. The waiter we had previously was fantastic and he was on again this evening. He seemed a bit run off his feet so perhaps there has been budget cuts or rather more greed from a new owner? Cocktails are $20 - $23. Bowl of chips $10, chips and guacamole $16 so very expensive for qr code ordering. It appears there is a new 'dining experience' where items are bought out as they are ready rather than all together. Although this is noted when you order with the QR code, It feels uncomfortable when I order a pizza which is ready quickly and my partner is still waiting on their steak. I don't think I'm alone in saying I'd prefer to wait until the entire table has their meals before starting to eat. The meals are delicious though. The menu was a bit more casual as well. Burgers, pizzas, and chicken wings, steaks, a pasta dish, fish. Quite generic and we had to help ourselves to condiments which felt very hotel-buffet-like. There wasn't an option for bread however there was 'extra bread"? Very strange. Perhaps it was an extra to the dish with truffle butter? I am allergic to truffle and had we had table service, would have been able to explain this to staff. I also don't recall if we were offered sparkling water. As a waiter of many many years, sparkling water ($6), bread to start ($6), extra drinks (10 - $20), sides ($8+), tea and coffee to finish are such easy upsells. We also weren't able to order a simple vodka soda with the QR code so we didn't. That's another $8+ . Are we supposed to go to the bar? That again feels really impersonal. The atmosphere was fine. There was a lovely fire and the lighting was nice but there wasn't any background music. Overall, yummy meals, but disappointingly casual experience when I recall it differently from when we dined previously and we probably won't be back unless it is for a casual lunch or...
Read moreHow do you write a review on a evening at the 100 Acres Bar and Restaurant if the Food & Beverage Manager at Hillstone St Lucia Golf Links and Hundred Acre Bar, Hundred Acre Bar Supervisor and Staff has planned your evening from the moment you walk in at reception to the moment you exit the venue. Just a short summary of our experience on Old Years Eve. Arriving at reception my partner received the most petit bouquet of red and yellow roses and we were taken to the roof top for Sundowners (French Champagne) and then the surprise did not end, without asking my favourite oysters were served and more Champagne to celebrate the positive response to a very important question that was asked We were then taken down to our table where another bouquet of white roses were waiting for my lady. Needless to Say, Sarah and Sarah had worked out the menu from here on to the coffee at the end. Then the time to settle the account and I was ready to apply for a bank over draft, but once again the bill was fair in fact I have asked them to confirm it because it seemed to be low, for the service and the meals that was prepared and well-presented, The ladies that serve these meals must find it so easy to present it to their clients with pride. Well done to the Chef and the kitchen staff that prepare and present meals in that manner to awake your appetite no matter how much you have already eaten and drank How do you show gratitude to the staff that served you all night with such great service Once again Sarah and Sarah, including the kitchen back up and the support from management YOU did it again and I hope indeed that the management and other clients appreciate you as much as we do. Keep up...
