Amazing Bahn mi rolls. Not only is this restaurant making great food with amazing service (highly recommend the crispy pork belly) but they made it SO fast.
We had had the somewhat brilliant idea to have an eating challenge. The scene was set, we put in our order of 8 banh mi, EIGHT?! I hear you think to yourself, surely that's enough for one person to eat. Yes, it is, hence we set a much more reasonable goal of six for our friend, let's call him Jock. Setting out to pick up the food we thought surely we had an hour to get our work sorted but no, he was back in a mere 15 minutes, remarkable! Sitting down, Jock commented how quick the food came out even after the absurd amount of rolls we requested. Sitting down we set aside the two for our other colleagues and jock set in. Starting on his six rolls (3 chicken, 3 pork) he commented that each roll was a delectable crunchiness to it, but not over the top, the meat seasoned to perfection. Working his was through the first 3 rolls he did not tire of the taste of the chicken, a flavourful and rich flavour. Moving onto the last 3 rolls he started the pork, the rich flavour still hitting the spot despite the fact that his rate of consumption was slowing. Chewing slowly and steadily he worked his way right to number 5, easily seen to be slower than before he chewed with deliberation. Finishing the 5th roll he sat and stared at the last roll, contemplating his life's choices of endeavouring to eat 6 rolls. Surely he told himself that the hype he had created around himself was enough to push him through the sheer vast quantities of food before him and in him, the wall that every marathon runner was up against him and he Jock, would surpass it and not let the beautiful culinary work of Mr Rollz go to trash can and ibis waste.
Picking up the last one he began, eating slowly as the vast serving size for such a low price was taking its toll on him, his stomach distended. Working his was through the final one he occasionally drank from the cold coke can he had also gotten from Mr Rollz, the ice cold coke helping him along. Finishing was a struggle in itself, as mentioned prior the large amount of food for so little cost was a lot, more than jock has anticipated. Piece by piece he ate, the crunch of the rolls sustained despite the fact it had been well over an hour since the first one had been started, truly wonderful baking. Finishing the last bite, jock finished and sat back, satiated and completely full, he dare not burp.
Jock has since been back to Mr Rollz for lunch and has commented that despite eating more banh mi than most average people eat in a week he was not over the great flavours and rolls. He will surely be back again for lunch, but for another challenge? Who knows, we shall try and convince him to get to 7 or even 8 rolls, we shall keep...
Read moreI like this Vietnamese shop! They offer delicious banh mi, pho, spring rolls, & refreshing Vietnamese - inspired drinks like their homemade iced tea & strong Vietnamese coffee. I’ve tried most of their menu items multiple times including a large catering order, & I can confidently say their banh mi is consistently high quality and of standard.
The standout for me though is their nem nuong — it’s truly out of this world and the best I’ve ever had! Their pho is wonderfully herbaceous & light, offering a fresh alternative to the usual heavy, meaty versions. The staff are very friendly, making every visit a pleasure. This place is a real local Vietnamese gem that I...
Read morePretty much go here every weekend to grab a breakfast Bahn mi roll and a Vietnamese iced coffee. Over the last 18 months or so, this combo has been offered at various prices, but currently is available for $10, which is great value, and the food and coffee is top quality. I think they're under new management, so their opening hours have been much more stable on weekends now which is great. In the past there were random days they weren't open with no explanation at all, but those days looks to be over now. :) Their pork Bahn mi offerings were also great the last time I...
