Wow …Im really torn ! . I really don’t want to give a great review for fear I’ll find it very difficult to get a table here soon.
Tonight was Oh Monk Asian opening night . It was executed spotlessly without drama and as if they had been in business for years.
I was tempted to experience this new addition to they Tarragindi/Annerley neighbourhood based solely on the pedigree of the chef ..Chef Batt . He has experience in a Michelin star restaurant in Thailand and with Pawpaw , Longtime and other establishments within the Vezin Group here in Brisbane . So i thought there was no way I could loose out on this . I was right . Focus on the food …not on the restaurant fit out …which is quite basic . Don’t expect linen serviettes , quirky table centre pieces or fine stemware glasses . That would be completely out of place here . This is a food journey , not an interiors experience.
Asian Thai fusion is how i would describe the menu . Really good quality food with generous servings . The menu presentation is very colourful and in your face ( K Pop style ) and it takes a while to digest the offerings . Patience will get you there . Wide variety of choice and great descriptions of what you will actually be eating . The staff were very attentive and absolutely on point with their service .
Everything around ordering is automated which for the over 50’s may present challenges ( me for example ) but the staff cheerfully were happy to assist and guide this dinosaur through the process. It actually ended up being quite simple .
We ordered Chicken Karage , Slow cooked beef rib Pawpaw salad and Prik King dry curry Crispy pork … difficult to find a better version of any of these 3 dishes . Better than a competitor in Bulimba and at a much better price point in my opinion. Minus the ego perhaps ?.
My only suggestion for improvement would be that not all ordered dishes come out at the same time ….progressive presentations are what many diners want ….but I’m not sure how you would get this message across given the automated ordering system or whether its at all possible to have staggered courses .
Anyway …it didnt matter . The food was amazing . Great quality and authentic in terms of taste.
Well done team . Youre sure to...
Read moreI had an amazing lunch with my husband at Oh Monk Asia, nestled in the serene neighborhood of Tarragindi. This Asian restaurant has garnered quite a reputation, with people traveling from all corners of Brisbane to savor its delights.
Oh Monk Asia offers a refreshing take on Asian cuisine, boasting fresh, delectable flavors in a relaxed and unassuming atmosphere. Our tastebuds were doing a happy dance!
The had a great selection of small plates, salads, curries, sides and stir fries. The popcorn cauliflower with Thai laarb powder and Siracha mayo was YUMSIES, a crispy and flavorful treat that left us craving more! The satay skewers drenched in a moreish peanut sauce and pork belly baos were equally delicious!
However, the star of our meal was the Coral trout yellow curry, a harmonious blend of savory and sweet. Absolutely loved the flavours. Paired perfectly with coconut rice and a cold glass of rose!
Adding to the charm of Oh Monk Asia is its warm and welcoming staff, who made us feel right at home. Surprisingly, the prices are quite reasonable given the exceptional quality of the food.
You will find that they are very accomodating for food intolerances and allergies, and they have vegan, and vegetarian options which is great!
Without a doubt, we'll be returning to this hidden gem to explore more of their enticing menu offerings. Oh Monk Asia has truly won our hearts, and we can't wait to savor its culinary...
Read moreThey promise "Asian eats done differently", and our group ordered a range of items from both their Groovy Lunch Deals menu (individual meal items marked with a ^ below) and their main menu. I was part of the latter group, sharing 5 dishes + rice among 6 adults for a touch under $24pp.
The food was all pretty tasty and made for an enjoyable meal that for the most part met or exceeded expectations.
I booked online and got a fast confirmation, including plenty of useful information like parking instructions. The day after our visit I received another email requesting a review on Google and inviting any other feedback via email. I'm finally acting on that invitation many months after the initial visit 😛
