“Great location (2 stars for this reason)! BUT comes with - Unstable coffee shots. Unsurprising food. RUDE staff. “ Few close friends with kids suggested to try this local cafe out greatly due to its location (we come from all directions - Northern, Eastern and Southern suburbs), with ample street parking available, and the family-friendly park right next to this cafe. We were sitting inside at the back of the cafe and we tried to order drinks first. No one came to take order from us. Waited for few minutes we finally saw one male staff walked pass so we asked if we could place our drinks order first. We were told that he will be back in 5 minutes. So we waited again and he came back. Some of us had placed the order for drinks, then he started to walk away from our table rather than continued to take order from us (we are a group of 9 adults & 3 young kids). He said he will come back later to take order from us. We kept waiting and my friends who have placed their order got their meals. The rest of us who haven’t even placed order yet asked if we could order, he told us that he’ll be back in few minutes. We tried to ask another female staff who just sent out two drinks to the next table, whether we could place our food order, she said NO because she’s responsible for drinks order only. And she didn’t offer to ask her colleague to help us to order. So we had to wait for another staff who’s responsible for food order. We didn’t get to place our food order until my friends have already finished their meals. Well... anyways... we finally succeeded in ordering our meals at the end, waited, and the food came. I ordered the “Hot smoked salmon (flaked smoked salmon with avocado, poached eggs on toasted sourdough with almond pomegranate dressing). When the male staff was taking the dish coming towards me I thought that “the dish looks great and i must take a nice photo trying to tag Bruno’s on Instagram” (they wrote on their menu asking people to tag them on Instagram). Well... when he handed me the dish he just casually dropped it in front of me, didn’t even care about the dish. The stack of eggs/avo/salmon on top of the sourdough just collapsed and almost spilled onto my shirt. Well... that’s fine I know he might be super busy and probably he didn’t mean to do it. Anyways I started eating my Hot smoked salmon. The poached eggs on top were only just warm, avo was avo which I understand, and the “hot smoked salmon” was icy cold, and not spicy. So what does this “hot smoked salmon” really mean? The toasted sourdough on the bottom was over toasted, one side of the toast was burnt and the piece of bread was so hard to chew. And speaking about the coffee, I first ordered a mug size soy latte. The coffee was okay (soy milk was a lil bit curdled though). After finishing the meal I ordered a soy latte again and I asked for a “small soy latte”. It turned out to be a mug size arriving. I didn’t ask to swap as I didn’t want to waste the cup of coffee. This time the coffee was burnt, soy milk still curdled. Even my friends didn’t enjoy their normal milk cappuccino (coffee was also burnt) nor their Burgers (fried chicken inside the burger was over-marinated with too much herbs and was quite dry in terms of texture). 1 kid ordered 1 babycino first and got a papercup with 2 marshies. Another 2 kids ordered 2 babycinoes at the same time, 1 came but the other went missing (didn’t arrive until 5 minutes later) and they only got 1 marshy each. 3 young kids went into a big debate over the number of marshies they’ve got. I could write another 2 points but I’d rather not to as I think this review is long enough. To conclude our experience that we had this morning - we don’t think we will...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for about 7 years and I’m disappointed to say I won’t be back soon. I’ll have to wait this chef out….
The scrambled eggs used to be my favourite. They were so fluffy and delicious. But not recently (for about the last 3-4 months) I noticed that it changed hands over the years a few times but the food was still super delicious and flavourful and the eggs were well cooked, the scrambled eggs were always fluffy and buttery and they gave you butter for your bread. But not recently. New owner? New cook? Not sure… but definitely a new team of fresh employees new to the profession… who forget to wait on your table, and take your orders, and prefer queuing in the hallway to gossip. Our table was curious to know what suspicious juicy gossip they must have had to whisper about… maybe the going’s on of the cafe… maybe there’s been conflict with staff… ohhhhh…. brunch fodder for sure
The coffee is still okay, but the food has definitely gone downhill- sadly. It’s lacking flavour. I recommend starting with butter- add butter. Also the chicken burger - thumbs down. Also really lacking flavour. And the amount of sauce on the bun was so skint you could barley taste it. It needs seasoning.
The cafe used to be bursting with people, especially on weekends and at brunch hour. This weekend it looked quite light on.
I hope I’m not bursting someone’s lifeline dream- but it tasted like its time for a new cook or some cooking lessons. The location and view 10/10 Food...
Read moreBruno Cafe has a triple threat of rude staff, average food and poor value for money. The portion sizes of our breakfast meals were quite small for the price paid, with the silver lining being that we didn't have to endure bland taste for too long. The drinks arrived after our meals had been finished despite ordering them before. This was not just happening to us but many tables around us, and when staff were asked about wait times they were unapologetic, spouting, "drinks are a bit slow today," to multiple tables around us without offering any courtesy. I could go on how staff were short when seating other patrons (By pointing and telling them to sit). How staff took orders by whoever a staff member happened to walk past rather than who was seated first (we ordered before people behind us were even approached, which was unknown to us and if we were in their position we would have been unhappy). I could also mention they chai shouldn't be listed separately on the menu, and charged extra for, if you don't know how the tea is made. Just don't offer it. Instead I will say Bruno Cafe lacked the basic fundamentals of good hospitality. The best thing I can say is the location was nice, and watching the dogs play in the park was the highlight of...
