Went there on Australia Day, it was 36°C outside and very very humid. When we reached, it was almost empty and felt hotter than outside (which is quite difficult to achieve on such a hot day). We sat down, no one greeted us or came to take our order (even though a lady was standing at the counter) we got up and were told by her we'd have to order at the counter, which is fine but wish they'd have a sign or something signalling that. We ordered our entrees and asked if there was an issue with the air conditioning since it felt really hot, we were told that it didn't work. Fair enough, we sat down waiting for our food. It was exceptionally hot and humid that night and after about 10minutes of waiting in the heat we just decided to get out entrees packed for takeaway. We asked the lady if she could arrange that for us,since it was too hot for us to eat and enjoy our meal there, she went back to the kitchen to check and never came back with an answer. Miraculously, in 2 minutes the aircon started working, we saw her come back but neither did she acknowledge the aircon working or give us an update on our food. After 2 minutes we received our food, my partner asked the person who served us (a guy this time) why the aircon had been turned off, he replied saying that it was never turned off and has been running all day. After this experience we just decided to eat our entrees and leave. The food was good but this is the only thing good here. We will not be returning here, customer service is non-existent and I really don't want to support a restaurant that's trying to save money on electricity by not having the aircon on, especially on a day that they're charging us...
Read morerecently had lunch at Spicy Momo & Bar and genuinely believe the restaurant has great potential. The paintings on the walls are beautiful and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. However, there are a few areas that could really benefit from improvement.
Firstly, the cutlery should be properly set up on the tables, instead of being left in a container for customers to pick up themselves. It would only take about 10 minutes for one staff member to arrange them, and doing so would make a big difference in cleanliness and presentation.
Secondly, the rice was quite dry and served in a small bowl, which made it uncomfortable to eat from. For a restaurant, rice quality should be better—softer, more flavourful, and served on a proper plate.
The curry was served in a large bowl with more soup than meat, and the meat pieces were cut into big chunks. I’m not asking for more meat, but a smaller bowl with better proportion would improve the experience.
As for the dry buff meat (sukuti), I strongly felt it was mixed with a pepper pickle from a nearby store, and the excess lemon made it overly sour, overpowering the actual taste of the meat. I could only take one spoonful. Having tasted true dry buff sukuti from Nepal, I believe those who’ve had the real thing will understand what I mean—it deserves better execution.
That said, the tea was excellent, and the artwork really added charm to the overall vibe.
I’m sharing this feedback with love and admiration With a few thoughtful improvements, Spicy Momo & Bar could become a place we proudly recommend to friends and...
Read moreI was surprised by the significant changes in the service and quality of food at this restaurant. So disappointed with the goat curry I ordered. Despite its price of $17 AUD, the curry lacked an adequate amount of goat meat. I only found two small chunks of meat with a bone, and the dish was mostly gravy. When asked for a water, the front person told me to go and grab from the fridge. I did but couldn’t find a glass to drink a water, lended up drinking from the bottle.
In comparison, the Nepali store offers 1 kg of goat meat for $22 to $25 AUD, which can easily feed 5 people with a curry full of meat chunks. It appears that this restaurant is trying to stretch 1 kg of goat meat to serve a much larger number of people.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to my fellow Bhutanese friends. There are other Nepali and Bhutanese restaurants that provide better quality food at a reasonable price.
Overall, I would rate the particular goat curry I had at this restaurant and the service they provided at that time...
