The service we received was an absolute disgrace, I'd absolutely be embarrassed if this was my business.
We were a party of 5, one being an elderly woman with a physical disability who can only walk with the aide of a stick and also a one year old. Told there were a few people on the list in front of us, not a big deal we thought.
The first issue started when people who came after us were then getting seated before us and we started scratching our heads at what was going on. The person responsible for sorting the seating informs us after around 45 minutes of waiting out front that the table that they were hoping (hope isn't a strategy btw) to place us on should be vacated soon. Talking amongst ourselves at this point we ask the question why did they not just join the two vacant table out front together and get us seated? Another 10 minutes pass. The person then says hey would you like to sit out the front and moved the tables around. Are you kidding? So after an hour we finally get seated. Why was this not offered to us to start off with an hour before?! The review from 5 days ago hit the mark when saying "The person arranging the seating on the waiting list did a terrible job. I don't even think he can run a bath."
Not going to lie, we were annoyed enough at this point but ready to let it go.
The second issue, same waitperson now takes our drink order, doesn't write a thing down and takes it to the kitchen. A couple of us remark about how impressive it was to remember the order with quite a few small modifications in there, alas when the drinks come, one is wrong and then they have to go remake it and then clarify the rest of the order for a 2nd time before completing the drinks part. Surely you learn from this right? Wrong.
After having to flag the person down to make the food order after getting our drinks (we had been waiting an hour and a half at this point), the person doesn't write it down again! 10 minutes later they come back out and ask to clarify what our order was again.
We get to 1hr55min and we were at the point where we said at 2 his we leave. With a minute or two to spare they start bringing our food out. It looks nice enough and thankfully the order is correct. There was an issue though with some of the elements obviously being done in prep and they were not warm where other parts were hot and fresh. Someone comes to ask us how our meals are and we give them the feedback. To this person's credit they did ask if we would like to send it back to heat it more. We were like no it's been two hours, it was the babies bedtime and we were defeated by the experience at this point.
Our initial wait person then comes out and say I'm sorry you felt some food was cold and we've applied a 25% discount to your order with the caveat though that the chef is sure the food left the kitchen hot. I don't like to make assumptions but you could take from that it is suggested we were either lying or don't know what hot food is. My suggestion is to just own it next time rather than defend it.
So for the 25% discount I will give as close to a 25% score as I can and give you 1 star. You managed to successfully ruin mother's day breakfast for three generations of mothers at the table with not only your lack of organisational skills but also your inability to even acknowledge that you missed the mark on nearly every level.
Won't return and would advise others to not bother, you can get the same fare in so many cafes around the city without the hassles. From what I have read here I doubt that this establish will acknowledge their deficits. I hope your...
Read moreHad the day off today and decided to give Bear Boy a try.
We grabbed a filtered long black and skinny Cappuccino. The long black had this spicy and fruity flavor to it, which I quite enjoyed. The first sip stunned me in a really good way. My cappuccino on the other hand wasn’t as delicious and for some reason the espresso didn’t really blend in with the milk. Food wise, I ordered their Chicken and Waffles while my partner got their Corn and Zucchini Fritters with mushrooms on both dishes. I quite enjoyed my chicken and waffles, which I thought was really tasty. The waffle was one of the best I have had, which was crispy on the edge and light and fluffy in the middle; the amount of sweetness was just right and not overpowering. The fried chicken was crunchy instead of crispy, which I thought was brilliant. It reminded me of the dredging of karaage chicken. It was tender on the inside despite it being chicken breast. The hollandaise was heavenly, and really took the dish to the next level. The mushrooms to me however were not as amazing. The fritters were alright but didn’t give me that WOW effect when having it. Especially halfway through the dish, we realized that the fritters were not cooked all the way through, as we could taste the flour (no idea if it was how it was supposed to be). The chili relish on the other hand really stood out and was quite yum. Presentation wise, I thought my chicken and waffle was a bit boring regardless of the taste and flavor.
As for the service, we thought it was great and everyone was really nice and attentive. Will come back and try...
Read more2024 Review I brought my mum to Bear Boy Espresso for breakfast because she’s been wanting to come here for a while. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with our experience. The latte was very weak in taste. We told our waitress and she didn’t seem to care at all. We got our food and it looked amazing. However, the mushroom benny had no flavour. The ingredients didn’t complement each other and they tasted bland. The salad was better. The beetroot hummus was flavourful and made the dish. But the halloumi clearly had been deep fried and tasted like oil.
2021 Review I had the mushroom dish and it was nice, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked though. I think it would of been more flavourful with meat or avocado as an extra. My friend had the Benny and it was amazing. The meat was cooked very well and had so much flavour. I drink decaf coffee and I would say it was one of the best decaf coffees I’ve had in Brisbane. Normally decaf tastes bitter but there was no bitterness. Our waitress was lovely, however I would suggest to leave the water jug on the table if the waiter/waitress is unable to refill the cups regularly. Overall, we had a lovely experience and...
