Thought i would try this establishment for the first time alot of people have raved about this establishment. Arrived at the worst time ever closing time at 1.45pm didnt do my homework on this. Asked to sit inside but how ever cleaning was happening and was told we had to sit outside. The waitress quickly took our order rushed us to make a selection to get it in to the kitchen. Menu needs to be easier to read in my opinion just looks like lot of lines and no structure to it. I ordered fish and chips and my friend ordered steak sandwich. And 2 coffees takeway thinking they would be a bigger cup. Coffees come out was like a medium sized takeway cup you get anywhere else. Coffee was nice but not overly hot. Meals came out looked impressive. My friend enjoyed the steak sandwich but couldnt eat it all. Was a bit of grissle that made my friend use the toilets to vomit. The owner gave her a fowel look as she came out of the toilets. The fish and chips well yep trying to be fancy with barramundi was muddy as anything batter was thick to make it look more than 3 peices of small fish. The server said it was local somehow i dont beleive them it was locally caught but however over all my experianced was rushed but that was on my doing how ever this establishment must be doing alright az it turned away nearly $100.00 of extra trade in take away coffe was it was closed, but staff wherr still cleaning inside and what not. Over all over prices could get better quality at another establishment...
Read moreThe Fat Frog Beach Cafe was absolutely fantastic. We felt welcome and relaxed from the moment we stepped inside. I visited with my mother, wife and 3 children - 8 week old, 4 and 6 years. I rarely leave reviews but the whole experience here was superb. The older kids dived straight into the fantastic toy corner - with dressing up, writing, reading, full of toys and games. It was tastefully seperated off from the main cafe so well that initially we didn't see it, and was private enough not to disturb other patrons. Our 8 week old slept happily throughout the visit in a little cubby shelf right next to our table. The coffee was superb, full of flavour and excellent microfoam. I had the fat frog breakfast (essentially a full english equivalent) and it was SUBLIME. Deliciously cooked sausage and bacon, with the most flavoursome mushrooms I have had, supported by an exquisite ratatouille esque tomato stew and eggs. It was amazing. My wife had an equally delicious looking eggs benedict - which I will 100% be sampling on my next visit. At the end of our meal the owner came and chatted, giving an insight into the history of the cafe and rounding out our visit in an engaging and genuine conversation. I could not recommend this establishment more highly. Thank you for a fantastic visit and we will endeavour to return when next...
Read moreThe food is great here ! Every time we visit Airlie we make a point of going past and getting breakfast. However, they are always crazy busy and it really shows.
The last time we went, we were sat at a table that had a reservation in about half an hour. We weren't asked to move when a new table became free as they just kept seating new customers instead so we just had to power through our food as quickly as possible. It took about 15/20 mins to come out so we only had about 10/15 mins to eat and leave.
Our drink order also went forgotten. We asked about it when we were served food but was assured it 'wasn't far away' even though the server didn't actually check (I'm sure they're just used to customers being pushy about wait times, however, I would've appreciated a quick look-in).
By the time we finished our food (in record speed, as the people had arrived early to take their table) and were waiting to pay we still hadn't gotten our drinks. We had to wait outside while they (finally) made them to takeaway instead. I was kind of expecting a discount or something for the issues but nothing was offered. Really disappointing experience, because the last time we went...
