I'm staying in Castlemaine house sitting for a family member and have been keen to try out local food options,
Food available at Saffs cafe is fantastic, and reasonably priced, it's one of the better cafes I've experienced food and value for money wise and I've been all over Australia.
However customer service is average, you won't get asked if you want anything else during your stay, I've been here for two hours, had my meal but I've never been asked if I want something else while I've been chilling here.
I've even asked for another menu and I'm holding it in a very obvious fashion for the last 30 minutes, but no one has come up to ask me if I want something else?
The front of house staff need a lot of work, they're very nice people but not very experienced in customer service operations in the hospitality industry. You're losing extra upsell opportunities because you're not asking basic questions or checking in on your customers post initial order - it's not a good customer experience.
Improve customer service and it's five stars, it's worth a visit if you're after brunch and you find yourself in Castlemaine on the food alone, but it's difficult to stay here past your initial order because they just don't encourage you to have anything else.
I'd love to experience Lyn's lemon tart, but you never let me order it after I...
Read moreWhat an awful experience! We didn't even bother to sit down! We walked away because of such poor customer service by a rude and hostile waitress. We were asked by a waitress to sit while waiting for a table to be cleared, she was really polite. While she was clearing, one of the other waitresses who was serving a table nearby allowed one of its customer to take the chair from the table that we were expecting, After she cleared the table she came over said to us and said we only have one chair one of us will have to sit on a stool. I then asked her what happened to the chair that was there and she said the other table took it. The waitress who allowed it to happen then came over with the most disgustingly rude attitude, asking the waitress what is their problem. I overheard this and told her we were waiting for the table with the two chairs. She continued to be rude and her lack of empathy towards us was zero. We walked away and I told the waitress at the cashier, how rudely we were treated and its not ok. If management cares, You really need to speak with the the rude waitress and retrain her. We come to Castlemaine with family and friends regularly and will not be recommending this cafe to anyone! Due to one untrained and rude waitress you lost some good paying...
Read moreI normally just leave reviews about my own meals yesterday, I dined with a large group, so I thought I might just weighing on my thoughts on their meals too. Firstly, I really enjoyed my vegan brekkie. It was really delicious and I thought value for money for what I paid which was $18.50. It’s always great to see a vegan option on the menu without having to ask for something to be made vegan. It makes life easier and more enjoyable as someone who is Vegan. My friend ordered the grilled fish , with salad, instead of chips and his piece of grilled fish was very thin, very small. Another person ordered eggs and bacon, and when we left, I noticed he didn’t eat all of his eggs, and it seems like he barely touched his bacon which looked very fatty as well. As a vegan, it’s a shame and sad to see people waste animal products. Another friend got the savoury scrambled breakfast which looked good, and my husband got the eggs Florentine, which he said he really enjoyed so all-round mix bunch. I didn’t actually ask everyone what they thought of their meals. This was just me getting my opinion about what I saw. A+ for having a good vegan...
