The beach bar is part of Clancy’s at City Beach. It’s a great place for families, with playground equipment for little kids. There’s also a decent sized grassed area with a couple of benches and BBQs, which is great in summer.
It’s also well set up for couples and singletons. There's a selection of benches and a couple of long tables that overlook the ocean – the high one is my favourite. Plus, the new plastic stools are a welcome change from the old school metal ones.
The décor is beachy, as you’d expect, with a couple of surfboards to boot. My favourite is the one with a moose on it! That’s Moose McGillycuddys. So cool. Love a good moose on a surfboard!
They don’t do all day breakfast anymore, except for the halloumi breakfast wrap, which is the dish I opted for. It comes with scrambled eggs, spinach, cheese and a tomato kasundi. It was nicely presented and cut into triangles (I’d eaten the first one, so that’s why there’s only one in the pic!). I paired the wrap with the ‘blind date’ smoothie, which has banana, oats, dates, cinnamon, honey and milk. The smoothie was tasty and the halloumi wrap went down nicely too. Definitely a good pairing.
Brekkie also includes things like the ever present sour dough toast and banana bread, not to mention free range eggs. Oh, and it wouldn’t be a breakfast menu in WA without the fan favourite – smashed avo.
Aside from breakfast, there’s a great selection of other items including seafood, burgers (including the aptly named ‘fish burger’!) and a series of salads and sides – think chips and slaw and even fried mice (that’s not a typo – it’s actually 3 cheese stuffed seeded jalapenos!).
The menu is big enough to include a good selection without being overwhelming. Plus, the kids’ menu is simple, which is probably a good thing. I don’t have kids but imagine they don’t really want fancy stuff.
The owners also provide newspapers, so anyone wanting to catch up on the news will be able to enjoy their coffee while seeing the latest in the West.
They also play cool tunes over the PA. Queen was playing when I visited, along with the Bee Gees’ classic ‘Saturday night fever.’ Anyone who likes walking, running or riding will enjoy the walkway that runs along the path by the beach. And of course, anyone who likes a swim will enjoy it down here.
All in all, the beach bar is a good venue, with lots of great food. There’s also a great selection of coffees, along with a drinks menu that includes cocktails, tap beer, wines and packaged beer. The staff are really friendly and easy going, which fits the vibe nicely. It’s well worth the trip. You could easily spend the day down here, or even just part of it. So, if I were you, I’d make the time to come on down to check out...
Read more29/1/22: Went for breakfast today at 10am allowing enough time as breakfast finishes at 11:30. Found a table for 4 straight away. We ordered three dishes as two people were sharing. We all lined up to order at the same time as we thought all the food would turn up at about the same time, scratch that idea. The shared plate turned up first, the second order turned up just as the first two were finishing, the person with the third order then went to see what had happened to theirs and was told that they were just cooking it. The third order turned up just as the second one was being finished. We were still sitting there after the restaurant was changed over to the lunch set up, more than two hours later. This is atrocious service, the place wasn't that busy. I've been here for breakfast a few times over the years and the food and service has always been reliable but they have really dropped the ball on service. It has to be down to bad management, the staff are friendly and helpful. Luckily the food is still good and the views are spectacular, so...
Read moreI was recently reminded of this experience back in 2022 and realised I forgot to leave a review so here it is. Back when the jab mandates were announced but had not yet come into effect, myself and a friend came for take away coffee. The cashier asked for our vaccine pass which I found odd since mandates were not yet in effect. I explained they weren't in effect yet and even if they were, we only wanted take away coffee's which were allowed under the mandates when they would eventually come into effect (again, they weren't yet). I asked for the manager so we could rectify the situation and simply get our coffees and go. The lady came over, listened to me for all of 5 seconds before interupting me and simply saying "I don't care, I don't care, I don't care." Repeated attempts to reason with her got no where. Throughout the whole COVID saga, I never had anything close to the abysmal and dehumanising "service" that this place gave me and my friend. I have not been, and of course will...
