Coona Fish Shop — Restaurant in Coonabarabran

I felt like something sweet to have after my meal & ordered a pineapple fritter. The person that took my order said they were really good, and preferred them herself. I was told there were none after I took the bait and asked for one 🤣 😵‍💫 Moving on… I thought the $9.50c advertised for Snapper was pretty good, so I ordered it. Turns out it was Snapper, but like a supermarket pre frozen kind of thing as opposed to a freshly battered one? Hence the ‘good’ price. It was ok despite that. Chips needed more chicken salt & the serving size was a little less than I expected. The steak sandwich was 2 white bread slices, toasted & it had salad with a bit sandwich steak in it. That was ok too. These items took 33 mins to make though. Which I thought was excessive, given that they were busy I would say 20 mins would be reasonable. I think there were 3 people doing meals.

Had to wait outside for the order, it’s hot as hell in there. More adequate ventilation would make it tolerable for the staff more than the customers. I couldn’t imagine working in that stuffy heat. Another thing, I reckon if they cut the menu in half & offered less options they would have less waiting...

I was travelling through the area from Dubbo to home on the Gold Coast and stopped in here to have some dinner on Sunday night 9/11 at roughly 5ish. I purchased the steak burger, small chips, a cup of gravy and 2 coke cans which all come to $25. It is safe to say this will be a regular stop for me on my monthly Dubbo trip for work. The steak burger was massive, tender and the best I have had to date! it was very cheap and there was nothing I could fault about any item. The 2 young boys on the counter had great customer service and definitely deserve the recognition. Well done team, see you...

As always, Coona fish Shop was great. Always get fish & chips there when we are passing through. This is our overnight stop on a regular long trip that we do. As a coeliac it is very important that I have confidence in the chips being gluten free. They always grill my fish separately. It is always delicious and the chips are a very generous serve.
