Update from 12 hours later - I GOT FOOD POISONING!!!

I’m not usually one to complain, and the staff were nice, although I was very disappointed with the food and cleanliness of the kitchen. The kitchen is quite appalling in regard to cleanliness to be honest. There is grime all over the walls, and it looks to be very messy. There is yellow discolouration on the white tiles, and overall it was just quite gross. We didn’t see this until we payed… not only was the kitchen gross, but the food was all in take away containers and the chefs were all just picking things up and placing them on different plates. It looks like everything was pre-made… In regard to food I got the chefs special which was spinach and ricotta ravioli. It was completely undercooked. I honestly think it was store bought from the shops, and was attempted to be cooked but failed. The undercooked pasta was hidden by the garlic cream sauce, which credit where it’s due was quite nice, but overall it was a very average meal and not worth the $30 I payed. The overall size of the dish was okay though. My partner got the fish and chips (he asked for the fish to be grilled instead of battered in which they said they could do). He received a plate of soggy chips, with fish that you could clearly see was cooked with batter, and then chef took the batter off the fish after it had been cooked. We could tell this because there was still a little batter on it that he hadn’t removed properly. It was extremely disappointing. The portion size for this dish was very small with a tiny handful of chips, and 2 small pieces of fish, especially for $34! The price is ridiculous for the amount of food given. Overall we were not satisfied with our experience and will not be back unfortunately.

An update for an hour later, both my partner and I are feeling very sick now… considering we haven’t eaten much else today apart from the food, we have assumed it is from...

Where to start, firstly I think this restaurant is on the expensive side for coral bay, however that’s not the issue I had. Simply put I had to deal with the rudest French waitress (her being French has nothing to do with it, just using that as a way of identifying her), kids meals arrived very quickly, within 15 mins of ordering. However, an hour after ordering still no mains. I asked if I could get an update on when the food would be served and was abruptly told we’re very busy with a small kitchen what do you expect?

That got my back up, and I suggested (politely I might add) that perhaps you don’t have more seating than you can adequately cope with. The restaurant wasn’t full either, there were plenty of empty seats. At which point I was asked / told - Do you want you food or not? Yes, of course we’ve been waiting over an hour with no other options at that time.

10 mins later the food arrives, and I had literally fridge cold chicken. I took the plate to the kitchen and they said we’ll throw it in the microwave for you now. At that point, given the premium prices I said - no thanks, I’ll do without. 2 mins later the aggressive French waitress follows me out and put the plate in front of me, I said sorry I really don’t want it now - at which point she explodes with a tirade of I’ll pay for this out of my own money, my boyfriend who is the Chef will charge me for the dish… I was stunned and then really annoyed that I was being put under a guilt trip for something that I had done nothing wrong.

To their credit the Chef came out later and handled it far better, apologising and offering to put the food in a takeaway container if I wanted. On principle after service I had I politely declined.

I’m sure on a quieter night it’s great. The food that the table had was on the whole ok, but the 1 star goes to the disgusting service...

DO NOT EAT HERE!!

Worst takeaway food I have ever gotten in my life. With limited places to eat in Coral Bay would had thought that this would be an easy option.

As soon as we walked into the restaurant the atmosphere felt very off due to the service staff being very rude. When we had asked to sit in she had dragged a table over and said “ugh you can sit here”. I would understand if it was busy but as someone who works in the service industry I could never imagine treating customers like this! We were not told anything when we sat down about the menu or how the service worked. We were ignored completely by the service staff and therefore decided we would just get a take away as I was left feel very uncomfortable due to the serving staff’s attitude.

I ordered the “fresh” fish and chips and it was by no means fresh at all. The battered on the fish was burned and the fish in the middle tasted off. I didn’t finish it and ended throwing nearly the whole thing in the bin. I would never eat here again or recommend to anyone and would warn you to stay clear! Better off...

Love this place. The pull of the old school Aussie country simplicity in the layout. Nothing snobby about the decor or service. Definitely in tune with the feel of Coral Bay in general. Food is absolutely EXCELLENT, with the bonus of being the only BYO joint in town., The atmosphere is sweet and quaint and simplistic, with a few charming "after dark" touches like table lanterns and fairy lights. Eat there once and you'll be hard pressed not to return. Sticky Date Pudding, Seafood Taster Plate are a must, but everything I've eaten has been perfectly lovely. And decent serves for your money.

Was hesitant to try because of mixed reviews, but the fish & chips were great! Big bits of fish, nice chips. Only took 10 minutes to prepare French waitress (I read earlier) was perceived as "rude" by a few, but having been to France (and also thinking French hospitality was extremely rude compared to home) that's just how French people are. Knowing a bit of backstory, I could tell she was trying hard to be perceived as friendlier and she did very well. The two french chefs cooked excellent food, pleasant experience - great work to all the staff.

We arrived in Coral bay at lunch time & came across Fin’s cafe, as it was close to where we parked. It was a pleasant surprise, they had lots of options available, but given we were in a seaside town, with the beautiful reef right on our door step we went for the fish & chips. We were advised the fish was snapper. It was a good portion for lunch, two pieces of fish & some chips. With the beach just across the road we went takeaway. Service was quick, fish was excellent & chips a little to salty but quite nice. Thank you Fin’s
