Delicious dining options near the University of Western Australia

I have been going to Bayside Kitchen for several years and am becoming more and more disappointed with how limited the menu is getting. They have removed at least 2 vegetarian options from the menu which from memory were very popular. They then added bacon to the previously vegetarian pancakes. On top of that, I used to be able to get pancakes with the bacon removed and replaced with extra fruit. However, I was told a few days ago that replacing items is not allowed anymore... So basically I just have to remove the bacon from the dish and still pay for it? So disappointing and not inclusive at all. Please return vegetarian dishes to the menu or provide vegetarian alternatives to dishes. There should still be a veggie burger option. There should be a vegetarian pancake option that replaces the bacon with something else... Seriously expect better. Also, see below the photo of the pancakes, without bacon, that I paid $18 for. Do I really have to say anything about that serving size? These same pancakes used to come for $16.5 without bacon a while back... Whoever is making the decisions to make things more and more meat based should seriously think twice. You are losing customers.

Great location, great views from with and also surrounding the cafe/restaurant. Love the ambiance, venue is busy - bookings are highly recommended if groups of 10+ pax. Otherwise walk ins are more welcomed. Variety of food is good. A few vegetarian options, although depending on the individual, for my husband and I the options for vego’s was not as exciting as many other places we have visited however, we were happy to give this one a go. Today I opted for the fish & chips, i found it little disappointing, price point and overall value: fish portion - small, a little ‘fishy’ and that the batter wasn’t as light and crispy but a little too thick and over powering. Falafel salad - tasty falafels, although salad was a slightly on the smaller portion (than we expected) maybe just lacking that little bit of substance in comparison to others, overall experience- it lacked value for money and definitely would not be enough for us to try the ‘same’ dishes again. However.. for the views, location and service, we will be happy to return to try some other options from their menu.

If you are looking for somewhere that serves a prawn noodle dish that tastes like you are eating sandy poo (because you are - they serve shelled prawns that are not de-veined in it) with 6 noodles thrown over a salad, and awful customer service then go here. The manager on Tuesday 14th January, and I use this term loosely, is not equipped to be in this position let alone any customer service role. Snickering, eye rolling, not wanting to help in ANY way after such a minuscule mistake, which we were extremely polite about! As our meals were brought out, I questioned whether it was a kids size fish and chips, as it was very large. Same for the other family that ordered. We were told no it was a normal size by the waitress. I said that I think it was put through wrong and we may have been overcharged. She said it was her first day and she would go and check what to do. By this time the kids who were starving have touched the food. I went inside quickly to double check what they wanted to do and saw the young girl speaking to the duty manager. This manager’s behaviour was so unprofessional and we were told ‘well you have the food now’. She could not have cared less and said that they were very busy. I politely suggested a refund of the $20 overcharged meals as we were both clear on what we ordered. She was furious and wanted to take the meals back, throw half away and make us wait while she prepared more for the kids (and probably to do something questionable to the food) as she said it was unfair that we have the larger plates AND get a refund, and that they normally dont refund. I can tell you that we did not set out today to ‘steal’ some extra fish and chips from a cafe, and they provided the wrong order and made us pay for it. I saw the manager talking about us to staff, roll eyes, act like we were causing a scene in front of customers, then finally throw the cash at us outside. What a shock and no simple apology for taking the order incorrectly. At 3.06pm the cafe doors were all open and there were a few people outside with takeaway coffee. We went in and asked to purchase some pre-made icy poles from the stand right in front of us. The manager sniggered and whispered to the service girl, who then came over and said we cannot serve you we are closed and it is not possible. Truly this service has been the worst I have experienced, and other clients of mine I have spoken to since yesterday have said they have also been here and experienced the same of late. Choose one thing to be bad at, you can’t serve greasy fish and prawns with poo still in them, AND have rotten service. Do recommend going across to the UWA for multiple other great food options and a frozen yoghurt...

Worst customer service experience. I took my wife on her birthday for brunch as the views are awesome. I went to order coffee , to which the lady at the counter said oh you are from this table, I got flustered as I have just arrived and I thought she saw as sitting on the table to which I pointed that I am sitting on a table of two with my wife (which is visible from the counter. I went to counter later to order my food and again the person said are you sitting at that table and i said yes table 17 by then she should have realised that i am not on the other table, till this time our coffees were not made and she could have rectified the mistake. We waited for the coffee, after sometime a waitress came and asked did you order coffees and we said yes two mocha and she gave us the look and brought our coffees . The coffee was cold we spent $16 for two coffees . Asked other waitress to that we need the coffee to be replaced as they are cold. The next waitress arrived in anger a tall lady. She started blaming us and arguing that we moved tables which we never did. The whole time we ere there the two waitress kept staring at us ( the one who came to ask what was our order and the one who came second time blaming us for changing the table) worst day of dining at a place. This is the type of customer service we received after spending 80 dollars for a basic food. I went and spoke to the same lady at the counter to let her know about our experience. This establishment does not teach their employees the importance of food check too, nobody came to our table to check if everything is okay specially after the treatment we received . I expected the manager should have come to the table to speak with us. We felt disrespectful and unwelcome, as if we did not have money to pay our bill. The worst the whole time the two waitress kept starring at us and giving us the looks. May be staff must be groomed the important of customer service. I wanted to give zero rating for customer service but unfortunately there...

never have i ever written a bad review. this was my familys first time coming here as we have seen good reviews and the photos of the food and coffees looked amazing. as a restaurant employee, i know how busy and stressful mothers day can be - but this? baffling honestly. our order came too $84. we ordered 3 ham and cheese croissants but one with no ham 1 regular cap with an extra shot 1 regular hot chocolate with almond milk 1 watermelon juice 1 babychino when we placed our order, she said it was $90.. we asked her if that was right because that seemed like a lot.. she read it back to us and said we ordered a flat white.. at no point did we ask for a flat white. she took the flat white off the order and then it cost $84. she didnt ask for our name or gave us a number so we had to constantly look at the counter for our food and drinks. we waited over 40 minutes for our food and drinks. the croissants were half ass heated up and were still cold and the cheese wasnt melted. the girl in cafe was so rude. she called out a name and she didnt know how to say it and said “lucie! or how ever the hell you say that name” disgusting. when we finally got our coffees, they still made that flat white we didnt want and my hot chocolate was made with oat milk and not almond plus the milk was burnt. we saw them putting marshmallows and straws in the other baby chinos but when we got ours, we didnt get either. there was also no waiting area and kept getting asked to move by everyone. the service here is disgusting and the quality of everything was also terrible, and way overpriced! $16 for a small squished croissant? wow. as a first experience here, dont expect me or my family...
