I had very high expectations when I saw the menu & prices and decided to book dinner for myself and my partner as a belated birthday / engagement celebration.

The service was fine, polite, but no ''above and beyond'' and no mention of the celebration itself (despite the booking specifically asking for special occasion notification). The waitress we had toward the end of our meal was much more attentive than the maître'd (black shirts) we got in the beginning, who was pleasant but it stopped there.

We had the sourbread (nice) and oysters (small in size & good but not great - the sesame ginger was probably the only one we would order again) followed by the pork belly as a shared starter (nice texture but rather tasteless / bland).

For mains I had the whole fish (the marinade was very tasty and flavoursome but the fish itself was just ok) and my partner had the lamb which was good but not great (the theme for the night I think). We had the sweet potato mash to share which was a huge portion but so very sickly sweet and rich that really we could only eat a small amount of that.

We had a cocktail each which, again, were good but certainly nothing exceptional.

The views on to the water are lovely but there was a wedding in the next room which meant it was quite noisy despite very few patrons in the main restaurant itself. The decor / setting inside is just a bit ordinary too. I think I expected something more elegant.

I think that I had set the bar too high but for a $200+ evening I would expect it to sit quite high...

I am disappointed and I don't think we will make it a...

"Our wedding at Matilda Bay in the Catalina Room was nothing short of a dream come true. From the moment we visited the venue, we knew it was the perfect place to celebrate our special day, and it exceeded our every expectation.

The picturesque setting overlooking the tranquil waters of Matilda Bay created a breathtaking backdrop for our ceremony and reception. The Catalina Room itself exuded an elegant and timeless charm, with large windows allowing natural light to flood in, and the warm ambiance set the tone for a romantic evening.

The staff at Matilda Bay were exceptional in every way. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and unwavering support made planning our wedding a breeze. They were accommodating, ensuring every aspect of our vision was realized, from the table settings to the delicious menu that left our guests raving.

The food was a true highlight. The culinary team at Matilda Bay prepared a delectable feast that catered to all tastes. The flavors and presentation were outstanding, and our guests were delighted.

The venue's location was not only beautiful but also convenient, with ample parking and easy accessibility. The sweeping views of the bay, especially at sunset, were simply magical and provided fantastic photo opportunities.

Our wedding at Matilda Bay in the Catalina Room was an unforgettable and enchanting experience. We can't thank the venue and its wonderful team enough for making our day perfect. It's a place we will always cherish and recommend to anyone looking for a romantic and elegant...

Booked for my birthday 4 adults as this is my favourite restaurant for the past 20 years. Told the special market fish was red emperor then to be told after the order that it was a mistake and it is the gold band snapper. My husband ordered the crayfish and prawn ravioli as a main, when this arrived we were gob smacked that there were only 2 raviolis on the plate overpowered with lemon at a price $55.00. My parents ordered the steak with vegetables which sounded lovely on the menu and turned up in a sloppy mess. My fish was served on a very small plate to make the snapper look large as it was a very small piece surrounded with exactly 4 snow peas as two small thin slices of zucchini. Again very disappointing for what we were charged. We raised our concerns with the waitress who went to the manager , who then came to our table to ask what is the issue. The ravioli was not a main size at all and so overcharged, the only response from the manager was did it taste nice. He had no managerial skills at all and was not fit to address the problems. I am so disappointed as the standard of the restaurant has fallen and the prices skyrocketing. The cheapest wine is $60.00. The waitresses should wear long sleeves to hide all of her tattoos. Very unprofessional. I have been a customer for many years for various celebrations. I will not be coming back, the best and worst kind of advertisement is by word of mouth. Which I will be telling all my friends and customers as I am in the travel industry where recommendations are...

We had a work dinner here last night. It’s the first time I’d been back to Matilda Bay Restaurant in many years (my memory had it being an exceptional venue). I must say that while the ambience, views and service were great - the food was a disappointment. We ordered oysters, scallops and bread to share for entree - and tho the others raved about the bread (I didn’t partake), I found the seafood to be just ok. Definitely not wow. Small oysters, scallops slightly undercooked. We all had cray mains as per the special, along with duck fat potatoes and the pumpkin salad to share. The potatoes were cold and chewy, and lacking in flavour. The salad very soggy. My cray dish (Thermodore) didn’t taste fresh. It was cold also. I only hate half. The others seemed to enjoy theirs (2 x original and 1 x mornay), but I didn’t hear them raving - they just ate it pleasantly. The price point was very good on the cray though. Overall I would say that the food is not what I would expect for the cost, and the reputation of fine dining. Serious attention should be given to flavour if you want to stay relevant in an ever-burgeoning goody scene unfolding in Perth currently. I’ve had FAR better for far less expense. I say this with kindness but firmness.

It was Mother's Day and my son wanted to take me out for breakfast with his stepfather. We decided to go to Matilda Bay and try out this restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but the lady at reception was kind enough to let us have a table for an hour. Everyone was very welcoming and nice. We were seated at a table and was immediately attended to by wait staff. Ordered tea for my husband and a latte for myself. My son asked for the breakfast brisket sandwich and my husband and I asked for the ham hock sandwich. Service was pretty quick and our meals were served very promptly. However, we were a bit disappointed. They were all just buns with a poached egg, some meat, and a bit of vegetable. There wasn't even a serving of salad on the side and the plates looked empty and sad. It was disappointing because for the price, well, we expected more. You'd get more food for that money someplace else. The sandwiches tasted good, the meat was tender. But it didn't seem worth the price. The service was outstanding, I will give them that. And there was no denying that the setting with the view of the river was great. But if this is the kind of food they have, I am sorry to say the location and service is not enough to entice.

I recently had the pleasure of dining celebration at Matilda Bay Restaurant, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The level of service is particularly noteworthy. The staff brought all the dishes in a timely manner and responded to all my requests with a smile. Their impeccable movements and behavior truly enhanced the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Our friends celebrated their wedding in this restaurant and the celebration was wonderful.  The restaurant has become a special place for all guests. A special mention must go to Romain and Saffron, who were our wonderful servers for the evening. Their service was exceptional, attentive, and always delivered with a smile. They truly went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us. The overall atmosphere of Matilda Bay Restaurant, combined with the outstanding service from Romain and Saffron, made the event even more memorable. I highly recommend this place for any special occasion. The food, ambiance, and service were all excellent. I have been absolutely loving it here again.  We will definitely be back again. Matilda Bay Restaurant is truly amazing. Thank you guys Alex
