I had a scheduled trial at this cafรฉ today, and unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. Upon arrival, I introduced myself to the owner, but was immediately told I couldnโt proceed with the trial because I wasnโt wearing a shirt and pants. I was dressed in a clean hoodie and track pants casual, but neat and noticed that other staff members were also in casual attire like jumpers and hoodies, so there didnโt seem to be a clear dress code.
What surprised me even more is that Iโve been working in cafรฉs for over six years, and Iโve never had an issue with my attire during a trial or shift ,especially when no dress code was communicated in advance. I was never informed beforehand that specific clothing was required, and had I known, I would have gladly dressed accordingly. It felt abrupt and dismissive, especially given that I had taken the time and effort to show up as scheduled.
It felt abrupt and a bit disrespectful, especially considering I showed up on time and ready to work. I later came across another review mentioning that the owner had been quite mean to staff in front of customers which unfortunately seems consistent with my own brief experience.
Note to the owner: If you have expectations, especially for trials or interviews, please communicate them clearly in advance. People value their time, and mutual respect...
ย ย ย Read moreA professional young waitress with excellent people skills took our order (6 people) and wrote it down.
When after some time and after everyone else at our table had received their order and mine hadnโt arrived I enquired about it with another waitress. She went to check.
After a while my coffee still did not arrive and I noticed that the second waitress was taking orders and clearing tables. I went inside and and enquired about my coffee.
A large man, who I must assume to be the manager/ boss immediately intervened and told me that I had not ordered a coffee. He knew what I was about. I assured him that I had.
The manager now directed me in front of staff and customers to point out the waitress who had taken my order. She was a young girl and it was obvious to me that this would be party to bullying so I chose not to. Unfortunately my decision not to participate with bullying appeared to satisfy the manager that I didnโt have a case. I still wanted a coffee so I placed a take away order, the rest of our group were finishing up. I then paid for this coffee.
Only as we were leaving did a member of our party say that he had paid for all our coffeeโs.
Other than for the manager who gets consistently bad reviews for bullying behaviour (check manager reviews) the waitresses were first class and the...
ย ย ย Read moreI love coming here, it's a lovely sparkly gem of hawker. This unassuming cafe packs a punch when it comes to service and food. Staff are attentive and provide efficient service in a warm and approachable manner. Water was provided straight away. Drinks were served quite quickly after placing the order and my knife replaced with a steak knife before the food arrived. No matter how many times I go, the food presentation is impressive. Servings are generous and taste delicious. Hotcakes where light and fluffy, and cooked all the way through, a success for a hotcake so thick. The banana bread was satisfying, not overly sweet, not too dense, and still full of great banana flavour. I loved seeing morning steak on the menu - it makes me nostalgic. This item even blew away my great memories. If you've never had Steak n Eggs for breakfast this is the place to do it. Steak was cooked well, though a little under seasoned for my taste. The bacon was crispy, the eggs just runny and without an acidic after taste, an the holindaise was delicate and creamy. It's a great place to come again, and...
