First and foremost, I would like to establish that this is not a paid review, fake review, this is an upfront and honest review from my personal experiences.

Kita to me is not only a restaurant, it is an environment for me to relax and be at peace. For me it can be an office, workspace, date spot and I use it for many more other things when I have spare time. Kita as an establishment has exceeded plenty of expectations as a consumer and I am appalled after reading some of its reviews on google.

After gathering knowledge about some of these reviews, it left me upset and angry. From the service, Kita puts out their absolute very best every time they are open. I have been to Kita multiple times now, and I can confidently say every time I have been the service I receive is impeccable, every. damn. time. The environment is great. Friendly staff, friendly customers. It seems to have an aura around its building to put you into a good mood everytime you visits.

Another thing is the actual food. Now I saw a lot of complaints about the portion sizes. I myself like to eat a lot, and I order multiple dishes everytime. As an adult the serving sizes are most than generous the feed the average adult, those complaining about the portion sizes were people who either came from a foreign place (America) who are used to eating overly sized portions of food they think when coming to Australia the sizes would be the same. No, I think the prices are as fair as they get. Keep in mind the quality of the food is close to some of the best quality in foods I get in most restaurants here in Canberra, consistency is not a lacking issue here. It hits right every time you order. They always have a clean space on every table, top tier cleanliness on every single Table.

Did I also mention that they are one of the not so many places open from 12am-6am. It can get really busy here sometimes, it is an understandable reason to have a wait time that can sometimes last long. One thing the kita team members do is being informing you if they have a long wait time. I have been put on their waitlist for more than 15-30 minutes and I will wait almost every single time. It is worth the visit and I can not appreciate nearly enough how hard working this crew is and under appreciated they are for giving our community a different touch and vibe of culture. Seriously kita is one of the coolest places...

I don’t understand. We drive half hour to come Kita with 6 ppl at 1am. There is one ppl took a big table and an empty small table near him. The waitress asked our number and told us gonna call us when the table free. I asked her if she could ask the one move to the other table or could we ask him ourselves. She told me she won’t ask and we are not allowed to do that too. I don’t know if it’s racist or what, but It’s pretty weird for me. I think it’s common for restaurants to balance tables. Someone who claims he is the owner told me he doesn’t want to discuss this issue. Hope he can give me an answer in here. About the food, we came Kita a lot before, food is fine since there is no many options at late night.

I update this one since the owner mention the smoking thing. Do you really don’t know how funny you mention it? Or it just show us how hypocrisy you are? Could you really be a man and confront the question directly? Not using a thing happened later to be as an excuse for the thing happened before.

About the smoking thing, I explained it again. Because I felt very bad as the word the waitress said, I stand outside and smoke, I was angry with it and thinking what should we do, should I argue it again or wait outside or what. The owner who was also smoking asked me to move farther to smoke. I said yeah yeah and started to move. Somehow he was unhappy with my attitude. So what should I say to make you happy? ‘Oh my Lord, I am so sorry that I feel hurt by your employer. I shouldn’t have emotion. Even I been here hundreds of times, I am definitely not an eligible customer.’ How funny it’s that my friend came from Sydney and I brought him to Kita. We been told call u when the table free in the middle of nowhere at 1am and just in front of you there is one man sitting in a big table and an empty small table close to him. You should agree with me this is more funny. And your hypocritical reply makes it even more. Also, how funny it is that we asked the waitress politely and move outside as she asked, I said to u yeah yeah even in really bad mood because of ur ppl. Not something like non of ur business. You said what do you mean yeah yeah. I said yeah means yes. Then my friend started to say words. Now you accuse us being rude. How funny it is. Hope you have a funny weekend. I just got one...

I went there for the first time with a group (more than ten) to have a pleasant experience and quality time BUT sadly came out with very displeased experience.

This restaurant don't bother taking any prior booking. So if someone wants to have a quality time with group of friends or family members then it is not a place to go. A group of friends went on Friday night recently and it was freezing cold outside. We had to wait for more than half an hour outside and finally we were given a table. The manager/waitress did not inform us when offered the table that we were allowed only for an hour to finish our meal. Moreover, we mentioned to the waiter when we placed order for entree and main course that we will order desert once we finish our main course. Even then they didn't mention that we will have one an hour to finish our all courses. There was no written instructions on the table for one hour restaurant policy. The manager came to us when we were about to finish our main course at around one hour mark and demanded to leave the table as other clients are waiting and we were told that our one hour time is up. We requested for more food ànd desert but literally we were forced to leave the table. The way manager dealt the whole situation was totally unacceptable. We felt gutted from the manager's attitude.

I understand this restaurant is doing good business now BUT such behaviour is unacceptable just because it is in high demand now.

I ordered a burger and found it very dry. Meat patty was not jucy at all. It had some Asian flavours for sure (may be lemon grass and Kafir lime) but not something to look forward for the second time. I tried chicken wings which weren't flavoursome. I travelled many parts of Indonesia for many years and lived there for months. I was expecting much flavoursome food which I didn't find.

Overall, I felt that I wasted my precious evening. My rating would have been negative if there...

As far as late-night eateries in Canberra besides Maccas, it's a good thing this place exists and is a safe and comfy destination. The decor is nice and the service is friendly. Judged on these merits alone it's five-star. Judged in contrast to other Indonesian/Malay kitchens in ACT and NSW, though, it could be much better. I took my husband hoping to have him try some Indo dishes I miss but can't cook myself. Instead, the small selection of dishes are simple and of a standard that can be easily recreated at home with cheap recipe bases (like a Karangsari rehydratable sate sauce block a la last night's sate chicken special) from Asian Provisions in Philip. If the bar for a four- or five-star rating is a kitchen's ability to make Indonesian dishes better (or at least cheaper) than one does regularly at home, Kita needs to refine and/or expand their menu. Another disappointment was a server's treatment of a special request. Seeing all the ingredients for a popular late-night Indonesian drink (that is drunk at places just like Kita in Indonesia), STMJ, on their menu I asked the server to ask the kitchen whether a glass of STMJ might be possible. Considering this place is very new, still finding its niche and markets its development of personalised service (Canberra Times article), this wasn't an unreasonable request. Instead of asking me about the drink and passing on the request, the server dismissed the request off-hand. It's a small thing that framed the rest of our time there thinking to myself "It's ok, but it's clearly not for me."
