I have now been to Wine Room twice and can confirm that they are consistent - consistent for producing wonderfully made dishes. For my recent visit, we opted for the shared feasting menu, and every dish from entrée to dessert was a flavourful treat for the tastebuds. However, the real standout dishes for me were the Balinese Beef Tartare, Wagyu Flank, and Potato Galette.
The Balinese Beef Tartare was a flavour explosion. The combination of perfectly seasoned beef and spices was unforgettable. The Wagyu Flank was another standout dish, cooked to perfection and with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the Potato Galette was crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, making for the perfect side to the other dishes.
The private dining room at Wine Room was a lovely touch that really enhanced our experience. It allowed my friends and me to chat freely (we can be loud) without disturbing other diners, making for a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Aside from the food and atmosphere, the service at Wine Room was top-notch. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. They ensured that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish.
The only thing that I would suggest is to have a copy of the set menu for the table. The staff did a great job introducing each dish however having a copy of the set menu for the table would minimise guests having to figure out which dish is coming next.
Overall, I highly recommend Wine Room. Whether you're a foodie looking to try something new or simply want to enjoy some great food and wine with friends, this new restaurant in Braddon is definitely...
Read moreWe were a group of older Canberrans, and were a bit daunted about visiting a wine/food venue in Mort St (young yuppie territory!) But we shouldn't have worried. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We did ask for the music to be turned down a bit because one of our party was a bit deaf - and this was done promptly and happily. The wine list was fabulous: a very interesting range of local, Australian and international wines - many we had never heard of (and we were previously in the wine industry). We were a bit disappointed that TWR had sold out of the Sapling Yard Rose as that was one of the wines that we were very keen to try (we saw this mentioned in a recent Canberra Times review). And there weren't any other Rose's as far as I could tell - so get some more Rose's guys! One good thing was that the wine list list had been updated to cross out the wines that had been sold out- so you didn't keep ordering wine only to be told that it was no longer available - as happened to us recently in another restaurant that shall remain nameless. The food selection was very interesting and we LOVED the food that we ordered - though we were disappointed that some dishes were not being served that evening. The items were particularly loved were the kangaroo skewers and the mixed cured meat platter with an amazing truffle flavoured salami (must get some of this for myself somehow). So - we all had a great visit and will definitely come back again soon. Well worth...
Read moreIf you want an on-trend place, this is for you. We just wanted a meal. Bit naive, I guess. We had no idea that Mince Tartare was raw meat with a raw egg. I asked for fish and that, too, was raw - albeit just about 6-8 pieces of finely sliced raw fish very elegantly presented. I said I could not eat raw fish so they gave me the tuna, which was cooked, once again a very small amount - a piece of fish with a few braised stalks of the green end of about six onion leaks. And we had a watermelon salad - another dainty quantity. My husband had been too polite to complain about his raw meat so endured the ordeal. The bill was $100. If we had watched Mr Bean before hand, we would have known what to do with the food!
To add to that, just on cue, a water pressure clean started next door and we could not hear a thing. That was not the restaurant's fault. After an hour of that ringing in our ears, we had had a memorable meal but for all the wrong reasons.
We hadn't been to McDonald's for about 20 years but the next night, we went across the road and bought fish burgers (cooked!) and my husband had an apple pie. $11 later - I prepared a salad in our apartment - and we had a great meal. That was the best $11 we have spent for a long time.
But by all means, if you like on-trend, you don't mind paying a fortune for miniscule serves, this is the...
